I had to get up and move today at the movies

A woman sat next to me and I just couldn't stand her slurping on drinks, munching on popcorn, licking her icecream. I reached breaking point where I didn't care if she was offended. I moved to the front. I wanted to only process the movie (Angel Has Fallen), it's audio, it's visual, not her, not her sounds.

Am I rude?

reply

Of course not. This woman was being rude with her nasty eating habits. Do you think she was concerned about being rude to you? You paid good money to see a movie and not to be distracted by idiots so you have every right to move your seat. Besides, you will never see this woman again so why care if she was offended?

reply

Exactly. I was telling myself that you gotta put up with others in a public space, it's not my own private cinema, but nope, I had to move. lol

Not rude at all.

reply

I'd be kinda offended if someone got up and moved who was sitting next to me. Wouldn't you?

reply

No. I don't think I would. I can't stand loud chewers or lip smackers, but I think I'd be more offended, if I were her, and you commented on her eating rather than just getting up and finding a new seat.

reply

No I wouldn't. I'm focused on watching the movie. I don't give a rats ass what other people are doing

reply

Rude? I don’t know. Uptight? Most definitely.

reply

Yup, I don't have that ability to tune out background noise anymore. Probably a result of studying audio production. You listen to every single sound.

reply

That’s understandable. I went to a lot of loud shows as a kid and my hearing suffers from it now.

reply

So I take it you won't be asking her out on a second date then?

reply

😆

reply

🤣

reply

ouch. that hurt.

reply

You think that’s bad, check out my confession later on in the thread, lol.

reply

Ooh! A+Zinger! 😂

reply

Is it bad to laugh at your own jokes?

reply

Not while you’re writing them. There have been many times I’m laughing while typing my reply. It’s usually when the thread has gone off the rails and my thoughts hit the screen. People are posting as fast as they can with quips that make me spit out what I’m drinking...or worse having to run to the potty! One of the best, if not the best IMO, posters to make us go sideline was our beloved Dewey 😇 who passed us by a year ago today. He went to rest high on that mountain, but he still continues to make us laugh.

reply

That all happened just as I started posting, so I never had the pleasure of knowing him. I spent Sunday sat in the garden reading the pinned threads and got quite upset by 2 newer posters who were very disrespectful.

reply

Thank you for taking the time to read the threads. I have no doubt you came to know him somewhat through the postings due to you getting upset by the upstarts. You saw his wit, his humor, his genuine persona. Our Dewey 😇 wasn’t phony. Most of us weren’t aware he was ill. It didn’t come through in his postings so we were shocked when we were notified. He loved life and I believe he enjoyed his pals on this board. There were times he was quiet, but we just assumed he was taking a break. Now we know they were his bad days.

Catbookss was one of his confidants so she can tell you so much more about this dear sweet man, godeway, Dewey 😇 as we knew him. But Stratego gave him a tag of Deputy Dewey Boy. Their banter back and forth was priceless and so darn funny. Everyone liked our Dewy 😇. Not too many people leave such a good legacy behind.

reply

Hence why I don't go to the cinema. I don't want to have to deal with people's shit.

And no you are probably polite given that many people would have told her quieten down.

reply

Slurping is enough for them to go to the electric chair in my books.

reply

In my opinion, you were not rude at all, you paid good money to watch and hear a movie, not her noises. You had every right to decide to choose better conditions for your money.

I have stood up and walked down to a different seat before, when a bunch of people around me were talking and laughing loudly throughout the film - and no it wasn't a comedy. They were laughing at their own stupid wisecracks. I should have reported them to the manager but I didn't want to miss any of the film, so I moved and I didn't care who might have been offended.

But it's stuff like this that's why I just don't even bother to go anymore, these days.

As for rudeness, I care less and less these days about being rude when other people are acting rude in the first place. Other people are rude these days and you have to fight fire with fire and do what YOU need to do too -- they do.

reply

Not rude. Just practical and viewing-preference-based.

Maybe I'm just self-absorbed, but if I was the woman, I wouldn't have automatically assumed you moved because of me; example, I might think you moved closer to see better. You might be uncomfortable sitting next to a stranger. Any number of reasons you might have moved that have nothing at all to do with me. Also, I'm sure she was pleased; then she could slurp and lick and munch away to her heart's content. Win-win.
