Popular Movies You'll NEVER Watch?

Maybe you don't like a certain actor, the theme, or something trivial... Perhaps a writer you dislike.

reply

All those Marvel movies.

reply

Same.. There are so many movies to see, and so little time, so I prioritize.

reply

Same here. I’m glad I’m not alone.

reply

damn right

reply

Same

I don't think there are any popular movies that I would refuse to watch. I'm pretty open minded and willing to give almost any movie a shot.

reply

Are there ones you haven't seen yet for whatever reason? If you can think of it, what is the most popular movie you haven't seen?

reply

It depends on how you define popular. If you go by number of votes on imdb, the film with the most number of votes I haven't seen is Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). I have seen all the other Marvel movies an dplan on eventually watching it, but just haven't got around to it. I haven't seen Toy Story 2 in its entirety, because I bought the dvd used and it was scratched and wouldn't play all the way through. I also haven't seen The Hangover Part II, Warrior, Divergent, Elysium or Fury. I will likely watch all of those eventually. If you go by imdb rating and the top 250, I haven't seen Harakiri (1962), Once Upon a Time in America (1984), Your Name. (2016), and a handful of others. I've seen 217 out of the top 250 on imdb.

if by warrior you mean the 2011 tom hardy film, i really strongly recommend that one. it's fantastic, surprisingly powerful. a bit too long, & it's contains more than a few cliches, as most sports films do, but i absolutely love it regardless.

reply

Superhero stuff so over it.
50 Shades just really bad films based on a poorly written novel.
Twilight films see above.
Pulp Fiction, not sure if this counts but I have tried to watch it 3 times, it just looks like a mess.
Anything by Tarantino.
Anything with Nicole Kidman.
Anything with or by George Clooney.

reply

That's so spot-on I just had to borrow it and repost it.

Also included is any movie with the words, "Return of" in the title.

reply

"Return of" reminds me of silly mash ups, never ending franchises and remakes and reboots especially of films which have been redone far too many times already or when they reboot films that they rebooted only a few years prior.

reply

RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD.

reply

that film is sublime.

reply

Return of the Ghost of the Son of the Bride of the Portent of Lamborghini Dracula

reply

Les miserables and other musicals.

well, there's tons of block-buster films i have no interest in myself. all those fast & furious things, for example. i don't care about cars & racing & any of that stuff. i would probably rather die than watch a transformers film, to pull another example out.

that said, i might have said the same thing about mission impossible films until last year, but i went to see mi5 to escape the heat & enjoy a/c & thought it was one of the greatest action films i've ever seen.

so there's a message to myself in there not to get too sniffy & full of yourself about such things, cuz you might be depriving yourself of something you'd like quite a bit.

I AM VERY OPEN MINDED WHEN IT COMES TO GENRE,ACTORS,DIRECTOR ETC...I TRY TO NOT JUDGE OR DISLIKE ANYONE FOR ANY REASON OTHER THAN SPECIFIC WORK INA SPECIFIC FILM.THE WORST ACTOR TODAY CAN BE REALLY GOOD NEXT WEEK.

reply

i second this!
when people rattle off actors they'd never watch, i always think 'what if you'd really like one of his films?'
keep an open mind. not so open your brains fall out, to use the world oldest joke, but enough so that you can let some new things in.

i'd rather die than watch a julia roberts romantic comedy, but if you put her in confessions of a dangerous mind, i'll happily watch & like her just fine.

reply

I strongly dislike films that involve torture as their calling card...Hostel type films or Salo.
Any of that brand of horror film.
My empathy gene is too strong and I end up always feeling like I'm the victim. A very unpleasant feeling.

reply

I totally agree. Those films really speak to the ugliest parts in our human nature.
Also the so called "story" in a saw film is just a series of traps - ie excuses to show different forms of torture.

reply

I've stayed at about 50+ hostels, and at each one, was that movie. I heard about it, and thought "That's not what happens at hostels" so I never bothered to watch it.

reply

Gone With The Wind
Not because I don't want to see it, I just haven't got round to it.
