Do you wear glasses?

Prescription, cheaters/readers, any that improve your vision.

I wear readers. The first time I was out somewhere and found I couldn't read some small print on something I needed to see, I went into a mild panic. What? What do you mean I CAN'T read this? 😁

Now I have a pair on the desk, one in the bedroom, and a third in my purse.

reply

I did. However, I had PRK surgery (similar to LASIK) back in December 2018. Best decision I've ever made. No more glasses and my vision is 20/20. And it was at a good price at only $3600 Canadian. Had it done in Vancouver, BC. I get alot of compliments that I look way different without glasses.

reply

I chickened out on the laser surgery.

reply

Get PRK surgery if you're going to get it and not LASIK. PRK has longer recovery time but has less complications in the long run. It was pretty scary not going to lie especially when they ask you to stare at the green laser light and smelling that burning smell. But totally worth it. My vision is fantastic!

reply

Ugh, staring into the laser light and the smell. How long does that go on?

Congrats on your 20/20!

reply

About 30 seconds in each eye.

reply

Wow, that's great news! I could handle it for 30 seconds.

reply

I have a prescription pair for reading at night. I'm long-sighted - more so in one eye than the other. As of yet I don't need to wear glasses for day-to-day living - although small print is becoming harder and harder to read, so it's only a matter of time.

reply

I suppose I'm now long-sighted too. No problem seeing things in the distance, or even mid-distance. It's nice at this point all you need are glasses to read at night.

reply

I'm extremely near sighted and always have been so it was glasses and contacts all the days of my life ...and it's only getting worse as I get older..
Now I've taken to wearing glasses for distance and taking them off otherwise.
I think I like showing off after years of being the blind one since now I can still read all that close up print for all those former 20/20 people around me. It's nice to finally not be the blind one.

reply

It's probably a good idea that you only use your glasses minimally. I use mine for the computer, phone, iPad, any close work, and too often forget to take them off when I don't need them. Not good.

Ha ha, you show-off! I was one of those former 20/20 people 😬

reply

I am severely myopic but my reading ability is as acute as ever.

reply

Were you nearsighted when you were a kid, or did it come on later?

reply

came about in my twenties. noticed it in college.

reply

That's interesting. I wonder why. The people I've known who have very bad vision had it from early on.

reply

I think Stratego had it right - too much time spent in classrooms staring at blackboards.

reply

But I did that too and my vision was great. Until fairly recently 😐

reply

Strangely, I'm the only woman in my immediate family on both sides that has 20/20 vision. Every other woman in my family wears prescription glasses and can't see well without them.

reply

You got the lucky recessive 20/20 vision gene :)

reply

I guess it's about time I got some luck.

reply

Readers but I need to stop being lazy and get an eye test. One eye seems blurrier even with readers. I blame iphones for deteriorating my vision. If I had an ipad in early days I’d still have 20/20 vision.

reply

Agreed, iPads are much easier on the eyes. When you think about it, all of this close-focussing we're doing now (phones, tablets, computers, books) can't be good for our vision.

I should do the same, but resist. One of my eyes is blurrier even with readers as well, but may be better at long vision. Yours?

reply

No problem with my distance vision.

reply

Even the blurrier eye? (I need to check this out with mine, but already know one's weaker than the other.)

reply

That eye is not as clear but it can still read signs, etc

reply

Yeah, same here. Thank god for that.

reply

Yes I'm near-sighted

reply

Glasses from age 10.
Contact Lenses from age 11.
-3.25 both eyes.

reply

Whoa, you got contacts young. Was it difficult for your 11-year-old self to learn how to put them in and take them out?

reply

In those days they were made of glass and you could only wear them for about half an hour at a time.

I was about 16 when gas semi permeable lenses came out, which were a godsend.

Now of course, they’re so comfy that you can wear them all day without even noticing.

Thankfully, I’ve never had any trouble getting them in or out.

reply

Oh, you started out with hard contacts. I'd think that would have been tough for an 11-year-old, but maybe better than having to wear glasses.

You could only wear hard contacts for half an hour at a time?? Good lord, that'd mean you'd be taking them out and putting them back in all day. Plus sterilizing.

Three cheers for soft contacts! 🍻 (I know you like your beer.)

reply

Oh those hard lenses were insane, but it helped build up a resistance. Funnily enough I don’t wear lenses that often anymore.
(Love beer, love wine, love alcohol, full stop 🍻).

reply

You mean build up a resistance to having something in your eye? Maybe your vision has improved!

(🍻 🍷 🍢)

reply

Yes, having something in my eye is no problem. I also meant that I tend to just wear glasses now, rather than use lenses. πŸ₯ƒπŸΈπŸΉ

reply

That makes sense. Having never worn them, I can't stand it when an eyelash or something ends up in mine.

I like glasses. I know, it's weird.
