Dumbest reasons you’ve heard for disliking a movie?

I remember when Django Unchained first came to DVD my dad rented it and the next day he was telling me how awful and unwatchable it was, that it was one of the worst things he’d ever seen. I spent months finding this purplexing until I finally forced him to explain just what he disliked. Turns out, he didn’t even last five minutes into the movie. In fact, he turned it off before the opening credits even ended, because the opening credits music was just so awful that he couldn’t sit through it. The next day we sat through the movie together and I forced him to sit through the opening credits, which he spent the entire time groaning over, but he ended up enjoying the movie. I just find it hard to believe someone would take out a DVD based on the opening credits music. Like, how bad does your pacience have to be to where you cant sit thru 2-3 minutes of old cowboy jingles?

Unnecessary bandwagon hate of a film really bothers me. It seems like people sometimes choose to hate a movie before it's even been released - such as Black Panther and Wonder Woman, for example. What's so dumb about it is that, when that actually give the films a chance, they realize - wait, these are actually not bad films.

reply

BOTH OF THOSE FILMS GOT UNNESESSARY PRAISE AND WERE JUST OK.

reply

Be that as it may, hating the films prior to watching them is equally if not more unnecessary. Sure, if they're just okay, if you don't like them, if you love them, whatever. But how can you hate a film before you've seen it? Purely based on not wanting to like it?

reply

Dumbest reason i've heard, by a mile.
..and its one touted constantly on this site by various asshats

"Theres women in it!"
"the feminatzis are out to get us!"
"its pc gone mad ! "
"Agenda! agenda!"
"waaaaaah"

"why is this woman not a man!!? its supposed to be a man in the lead role ... thats the way its always been ..."
"Women arnt allowed to star in films unless theyre being saved or getting f***ked"

wankers.

reply

Yep! It’s ridiculous now that it’s practically impossible for a movie to star a woman or black guy and NOT be seen as having a political agenda to some people. A movie stars a woman. Like, who gives a shit? What’s funniest of all is that most of the incels who are bitching about the new Terminator movie staring Linda Hamilton were the same ones going “I’m not sexist, I love Sarah Connor!”

reply

NAILED IT.

reply

Thank you! I hate all the incels right now, how any movie starring a woman or minority actor MUST be pushing some agenda. They all rave about how amazing Ripley is as some sort of proof to show that they aren't sexist but I guarantee Aliens would be accused of pushing a leftist agenda if it were being released in 2019.

reply

It's modern or new and it's old.

reply

people who hate a movie because they saw the nostalgia critic review for it, so they hate it too even if they actually havent seen it.

i remember talking to someone who hated signs (2002) and seemed to think the nostalgia critic skit where the aliens argue about wooden doors in their alien language was actually in the movie. "that scene was so stupid!" wasn't even in the movie, lol.

reply

People who don’t like a movie because they think it’s “woke”. That’s the stupidest reason I have seen.

reply

👍🏻 I can't help but wonder why they spend time deciding whether it's "woke" or not. Some folks just go looking for offense so they can have their 15 minutes of outrage.

reply

Dumb reason going on right now:
Amber Heard is in it.
Just because her personal life is in the toilet everyone thinks the movie and her castmates should be punished.

reply

the political views of an actor or actress.

reply

Yep. I'd rather not know their views. When they're very vocal and visible with their opinions, it can become a turnoff, regardless of where they land on the political spectrum.

reply

Why did you post this? I don't read posts that are flashbacks.

reply

A flashback within a flashback - get Nolan on the phone!

reply

He'll make a movie about a flashback within a flashback but played backwards, so it would be a flashforward within a flashforward.

Starring CGI Michael Caine.

I’m sold!
