Anyone else sick of looking at Adam Driver’s face?

He’s not that good of an actor, he’s a big oaf with a goofy face and an unnaturally deep voice. Yet they won’t stop putting him in stuff.

I find his appearance and textbook Julliard acting style irritating. He's like Matt Lieb but without any humor, charm or general appeal.

reply

I don't think he's leading man material but he comes off like a gent on screen and he's very honest during interviews...being a US Marine is also worth mega points in my book

He seems like a good fellow and a star
I like the guy

reply

He certainly comes off as an upstanding guy. As a person I find him pretty likable. As an actor, he seems better suited for character roles like his performance in Inside Llewyn Davis.

Good for him for makin' dat money and getting opportunities.

what is a textbook Julliard acting style?

reply

Mostly it's staring off into the middle distance and saying the lines, all while lending one's individual persona to the performance. Basically the students are told: "look over here and do the thing."

Such conditions can lead to a reasonably convincing performance, although it tends to lack the cleverness and guile of one generated from the ground up or an actor with more substantial life experience.

There are advantages and drawbacks to this style, and there are many respectable actors who embody the former. I'm just trying to articulate why it doesn't quite work.

reply

"just remember your lines, and don't bump into the furniture."

googled Julliard acting style and technique, now I feel even dumber. There is so much I don't know. Adler? Meisner? Hagen?

reply

Those monikers refer to particular acting theories named after their respective professors. For the most part, I see a lot of performances these days based on teachings of Meisner and Strasberg.

reply

hate to break it to you but he is in the 'face off' reboot

reply

I hope he gets his face taken off and keeps it that way.

Not at all. His face has character, something you don't see in Hollywood anymore. So many actors and actresses today have completely forgettable faces.
