Stonekeeper's Summer Game: I recommend THIS Mystery Movie #567 - Don't Bring up That Night in Devon [Host gets the point with PONETTE]

BOOM

I have a movie in mind and you have to guess which one it is. For each movie you guys are going to guess, I will give a hint that CONNECTS your guess with the movie I have in mind.

Example of connections: Actor, length, genre, aspect ratio, language, country, year, director, writer in common, rating, number of votes, nominations. It can even be something like: both movies involve a love triangle.

- The winner can either start a new game or say "pass". In case of a pass, the OP gets to start another one.
- After 12 hints, the point goes to the OP and he/she gets to start another one.
- Movie must have at least 3500 votes. Otherwise, add a Bonus Hint.

After a litany of hard work from everyone the point passes on to moi.

It's been a while, but I was recently inspired to watch Ponette (1996) again. It revolves around the general premise of a girl trying to reconcile a drastic change in her world. This film handles the subject matter in the form of a parent's death. I appreciate the way that it captures the innocence of a child's view presented in a stark and straightforward manner. While not the easiest watch in the world, Ponette delivers an optimistically honest portrayal of one's grasp with grief.

The Rules of the Game (1939)

We're here to hint, not to write our memoirs.

La passion de Jeanne d'Arc (1928)

reply

Just got the latest Criterion release and am looking forward to watching it again!

Elevator to the Gallows (1958)

Anything's good for an hint: wives, girlfriends, bartenders, childhood friends, deceived husbands - but not an elevator. That's ridiculous. It's totally harebrained.

A Wedding, 2016

reply

Sorry, not an under 3500 round. Excellent pick nevertheless!

and i was looking at 21st century films, i blew it.

The Earrings of Madame De... (1953)
Vivre Sa Vie (1962)

I think you'd go for My Life to Live. Madame de is too much of a Women's picture.
Both are wonderful in very different ways.

reply

Golly, it's been ages since I've seen Vivre. Might have to set up a double feature!

sans toit ni loi 1985

reply

Good stuff, good stuff. No further comment.

Before the rain (1994)

?

reply

Nope, nope, and nope.

reply

That was hard. I’m pretty sure my guess fitted all hints.

Oh well, good game Fredette

reply

Good game indeed. How about you host the next one?
