How the hell has Jane Fonda not been charged with treason?

I'm sure the captured US soldiers in 'Nam were not fond of what some Hollywood bimbo thinks.

reply

What she did was despicable

And despite being a sexy babe and pretty good actress once upon a time I've always considered her as Hanoi Jane

She has since apologized and publicly regretted her foolish behavior (and she's in her early 80s...I wouldn't want to see an 80 year old woman in prison for a PR misfire)

The brave men that fought that horrible war deserve more attention than Barbarella

reply

I'm glad she apologized. It's true a lot of people were against the war in Vietnam, but they should have expressed their anger to the sitting president at the time not the soldiers who were drafted into the war. Over 58,000 soldiers died.

reply

I couldn't agree more

reply

I don't see any point in apologized. If she said it,she MEAN it.

reply

Somehow in her mid 30s she said and did some remarkably stupid things

reply

I know. She isn't nobody or someone who doesn't know what she is talking about.
I know her daddy was cold to his children, but I'm sure she learned a LOT from late Henry.
That is,her political views come from his daddy's view.

reply

Yes she did say remarkably stupid things for which she regretted.

reply

Yeah
Time this hatchet was buried

reply

That's old news. My question isn't why haven't those ISIS brides been charged with treason?

reply

Old news. When is America going to close the concentration camps on the border and return the children to their mothers?

reply

How come they weren't called concentration camps under the Obama Administration? Same facilities, same cages were used, but no one batted an eye. As for the children, horrible policy and I hope they are reunited as soon as possible.

reply

It's "newspeak" if you read the book 1984. In other words, Americans repeatedly use euphemisms in order to disguise the truth. For instance, American soldiers killing innocent civilians accidentally or otherwise has the euphemism "collateral damage".

"Internment camp" "Japanese internment camp" "detention center" are euphemisms.

George Takei spent his early childhood in one and discusses his anger about it not being called what it is: concentration camp.

You're purposely keeping yourself ignorant about the cruel immigration policy changes under Stephen Miller and Trump. Your whataboutism is a deflection and justification for your support of "cruelty and evil" that Takei mentions. Your "hope that they are reunited" is useless without action.

reply

Ugh. Take this nonsense over the the Politics Board and stop infecting the General Discussion area.

reply

I'm not the one who started the topic in the general discussion. And you're the one who brought up Obama and political policy - not me. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

reply

Freedom means people get to do things with which you and I may disagree.

reply

Even if it means breaking the law and committing treason?

reply

Sometimes. I'm not going to argue hypotheticals.

reply

How is an anti-war protest treason or breaking the law?

reply

She crossed the line by it being "just a protest". She aided and comforted the enemy.

reply

Not really. She was trying to end a horrible war that Americans shouldn't have been in. Terrible lost of life. I spent my early childhood hearing the casualty reports on the 6 o'clock news after school everyday.

That reminds me. Captain Bone Spurs Trump is a 4x draft dodger. He and Moscow Mitch are aiding and comforting and siding with Russia over American law enforcement agents as well as encouraging them to spy on us and interfere in our elections.

Trump's treason:
“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 [Hillary] emails that are missing. I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press. Let’s see if that happens, that’ll be next.”

reply

I think you would be very popular over at the Politics board.

reply

Jame Fonda and Vietnam are very politically charged as you should have known. You should've started this topic in the political section, but it's too late now since the entire thread can't be moved.

If you stand down with your political rhetoric, then I won't feel the need to defend the First Amendment and a citizen's rights under it.

I have no problem discussing Barbarella, On Golden Pond, her exercise videos or the recent loss of Jane Fonda's brother in lieu of Vietnam.

But, attack the Constitution and I get ornery.

reply

Keelai made a fair point. I get it, I served in the Army about 10 years after 'Nam and people were fiery about Hanoi Jane, but we also didn't like draft dodgers back then either. That was before 30 years of ditto radio brainwashed people into hating America.

reply

Yeah, they stopped showing dead bodies on TV.... Everyone knew Trump was shit before he was President, but where was everyone after Obama started FIVE wars? There was no way I could have voted for Hillary, because I'm not a right-winger. There is no left-wing in America.

Jane Fonda did something emotional. She went to Vietnam. Big fucking deal.. "Snowflakes"

reply

Idiots didn't know Trump was shit and there are plenty of idiots in the U.S..

I knew Obama was mainly status quo when he picked his Wall Street economic advisors on the first or second day. Nevertheless, he did have some successes like gay marriage, Affordable Care Act, Paris Agreement, treaties with Iran and N. Korea, etc. and he restored the economy which was on the verge of a global economic collapse. He instituted laws to protect Americans re: banking and housing and lead the green energy. Both parties find excuses to support the military-industrial-complex.

By default, you voted for an extreme far-right white supremacist who is likely crazy by not voting for Hillary. She's a moderate Democrat. She would not have been tearing up the Constitution, be in bed with Putin, courting the KKK, calling journalists the enemy of the people, caging Hispanic migrants, destroying alliances with our allies, inciting nuts to mass shootings, trying to depopulate America of nonwhites, etc.

"There is no left-wing in America."
Not when Democrats don't know how to play the political game. Support a winnable candidate like Biden to beat Trump and win the Senate. Democrats need both Houses and the presidency to make any real changes, nominate judges and change laws. Democrats need to be on the same page to win in 2020.

reply

Maybe you don't read well - I didn't vote for anyone. People like you keep voting for the evil of two lessers... Gay marriage? Are you kidding? He kept saying (along with Hillary), "I believe marriage is between a man and a woman" and it took John Roberts and a conservative Supreme Court to make it legal. 2 seconds later, they had rainbow colors over the White House.. You don't see the bullshit in that?? His entire Cabinet was cultivated by a single e-mail from Goldman Sachs. 5 fucking wars! 26,000 bombs dropped on Syria (for no reason)..

Obama re-signed The Patriot Act, Bush Tax Cuts... Punished whistleblowers and the press more than all the previous presidents combined. US electronic surveillance has reached an all-time high under Obama, with increased monitoring of emails, text messages and phone conversations

ACA - another right-winged plan, Heritage Foundation, AMA..

Obama fracked, drilled in the arctic, expanding domestic offshore oil and gas exploration in Alaska, the eastern Gulf of Mexico, and off the east coast of the United States.

Bailed wall street out (what about "Main Street"?)... Income inequality? Homelessness? NOTHING. 2 years of control, could have passed anything, and passed a watered down, candy coated shit called the ACA... NO PUBLIC OPTION! Joke.

This Russia thing is for nuts... Why not talk about the real collusion (with proof, admitted) of the DNC.. Read real journalists, not fucking CNN. You are the reason we'll have right-wingers posing as Democrats. When the shit hits the fan, they'll always compromise and see it the fascist's way. Then again, you sound like a right-winger to me... Biden? LOL. I wouldn't vote for that fucker in a million years. Winnable candidate my ass - they all said the same about Hillary, while in fact, Bernie would have probably beaten him bad - he certainly wouldn't have lose EVERY swing state, the mid-west, which is always blue. Did Russia force Clinton not to show up in Minnesota or Michigan?

reply

What did she say

Photos of her siding with the enemy and sitting in their anti-aircraft gun.

reply

[deleted]

The war was unpopular and wasteful

reply

Like the Iraq War.

reply

She went in 1972 - might have been different it she had gone in 1967.

reply

Treason? She should be given an award of some kind for opposing that unjust war that we were lied into in Vietnam.

reply

It certainly was a war the US shouldnt have been in , it turned out , and also one they couldnt win.
2 good reasons to oppose it right there, admittedly it did take a long time for those 2 things to become clear

reply

Yes, she made some mistakes while opposing the war, but she was on the right side of history.
