Is it just me or do people take forever moving after the light turns green at an intersection?

Lately I've been noticing that a lot of people seem to take forever going after the light turns green at an intersection, it makes me wonder what their problem is.

reply

What I also noticed is that people seem to be afraid to turn left even if the oncoming traffic is 300 feet away.

reply

That annoys me, too. Especially when holes in the oncoming traffic are few and far between. I find myself grumbling, "Three cars could have made it safely across, dingbat!"

reply

It is driving me nuts. I even look for routes now that have no left turns.

reply

I have had a lot of experiences with people in front of me who were playing with their phones when they should have been moving.

reply

OP, I see this all the time when I'm driving and it really pisses me off. They are on their cell phones. I can't tell you how many times I've had to honk the horn to get them moving.

reply

The phone at the red light invariably results in screaming, honking and middle fingers...and that's just me

reply

Not in NYC they don't...you watch the light and gun it on green
NO patience here for seconds lost because of a doofus in front of you

reply

Always been true, even before cell phones. I've lived all around and the worst city for it is Anchorage. The light turns green, everyone starts thinking about putting their car in gear, then put their car in gear, then start thinking about releasing the brake, then release the brake, then start thinking about pushing the gas, then they push the gas, and it all happens one car at a time, and maybe one car gets through the intersection before the light turns red. I'm not exaggerating. Don't know how many times I got angry and passed half a dozen cars sitting at a green light. Also they slow down for green lights.

In contrast, Dayton Oh, red lights and stop signs are merely suggestions.

It's not just you. I don't know if it's happening more these days or there's just more congestion in certain areas, but I've noticed it a lot in the last few years. People seem extra preoccupied these days, phones or not. The minute they get a moment alone, they seem to get too stuck into it and forget what they're doing.

reply

Green doesn't mean "Go". It means "Go if the intersection is clear."

Often times there will be cars in the intersection, that are going straight or completing a turn, even if you got a green light, who you need to wait for. They ran the yellow/red.

Your safety while driving is up to you. You need to pay attention to the road and be a defensive driver.

I dunno. This topic sounds stupid to me. You act like people should floor it the second they have a green light, but that's not actually how it works.

reply

I do see people wait 15-20 seconds to go after the light turns green which causes the person behind them to get very impatient.

I remember Michael Winner (director of "Deathwish") as a guest on "room 101" a comedy show where you list things that piss you off.
