most solid plot hole

You know every time someone posts a "plothole"
Someone else will reply with
Thats not a plothole , thats just the script / bad writing / macguffin etc etc

Usually that 2nd person is correct, so what are your strongest examples of a plot hole?
Yout "most solid" plot hole
a real one!
something that makes the story contradictory
or "theres no way they could have known to do that!"
or "if that was the answer why didnt they do that in the first place" (maybe?)

rules: no time travel films, because they cannot avoid contradictions , paradoxes and plot holes.

Not sure if this constitutes as a plot hole but in "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", when Joel (Jim Carrey) enter the Lacuna building, in the background we can hear Kirsten Dunst say something on the telephone like: "no, you can't have the procedure done three times in a year". If the person on the phone has had her memory wiped, how can she know to keep going back to them?

reply

they probably don't know, hence the warning

reply

Didn’t they just wipe a certain precise memory away? So that would allowed the client to want to erase other memories too, no?

reply

Clementine wasn't aware of Joel when he approached her in the library. If they didn't wipe the entire procedure also, at some point she should have realized that the reason why she didn't remember him was because she had the procedure done. That leads me to believe that they wiped the entire procedure, coming in the office included, from her memory. I hope that makes sense.

The biggest plot hole of all time happens in Vertigo. Scotty (Jimmy Stewart) tracks Kim Novak's character to a hotel. We see her walk in, we see her enter her room. But then when he talks to the desk clerk, she says that Novak's character never checked in. It's never explained why this happens (if the concierge was lying), nor does this whole scene make sense plotwise.

Spoilers Alert!

In the movie Us, why would the evil double mention to the husband that when she was young she met her double and has been traumatized since. I feel like these words could work only from the « real girl »’s mouth. So that was just a plot hole only there to confuse us I think
