Seatbelt alarms and other annoying things...

I just ran out to the deli for a pack of Newports...it's not terribly far but it's all country roads and you can really speed with all the windows open and hair metal blasting!
Fun ride, no seat belts and speed is your choice!

Except my seatbelt alarm kept dinging...Why does my car act like my mom?
Also, my fridge seems to feel the need to ping every couple of seconds when I'm loading in some groceries...what dummy decided that we needed cars and refrigerators to yell at us to be careful?!?

It all feels like Fascism to me:/
The 80s were way cooler, none of these machines had a fresh mouth back then!

reply

Ping!
Ping!
Ping!
Ping!
Ping!
Ping!
Ping!
Ping!

reply

Soundtrack of my life!
I'd prefer Van Halen as my background groove but sadly it's mostly 'ping, ping, ping' all damned day

It's quite maddening!

reply

Just insert pieces of card/plastic where seatbelt clips etc should go - Viola! Van Halen beckons.

reply

Life Hack...I like itπŸ‘

I'm not terribly opposed to seatbelts but goddamit car...can't you see I'm very busy rocking out here?

reply

Over here we call it 'The Nanny State' - a belief that you cannot work things out for yourself.

reply

Do you have directions pasted onto ladders as to how to use them? We have them here! 😳

reply

It's the liability thing and the "I'll sue you!" culture we live in. Oh, and no common sense, so people have to be reminded that doing such and such on a ladder (or whatever) is dangerous. πŸ™„

reply

^This^

reply

Yes, apparently one or more ladder companies were sued because people couldn't figure out on their own to not stand on the very top of them. Or to not drink coffee that's scalding hot!

reply

The little kid diving head first into the spackle bucket decal really beats all...Do we really need this decal on every large bucket..?

reply

We have bags of nuts that say, 'may contain nuts' so....

reply

πŸ˜„ Now I don't feel so bad.

reply

Wacky warning labels! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaoOfswnojA

reply

πŸ˜€

Gotta love the child's neck pillow that warns you against using it around children.

reply

Electric razor...'Never use while sleeping' LOL

There must be a great story behind this one!

reply

Something was flashing on my dash last week. The gasoline cap was not screwed on tight enough. The thing is very sensitive.

reply

They are really over-complicating cars nowadays

reply

My smoke detector blinks red every 40 seconds to indicate it is operating. That's what the back of the detector says. Who the hell picked red? Shouldn't it be green?

reply

Aaaargh! It's flashing red - run away!

reply

Probably best to run away from any device flashing red....or maybe we just watch too many movies!

reply

Exactly! Yet it is printed right on the back of the thing that flashing red is GOOD. I even checked with the building maintenance guy who confirmed that.

reply

I'm too busy running away to read any of that!!!

reply

My house is covered in those things and yes, they all flash red?! Maybe we should start a thread about red things that flash that are a good thing? I imagine it would be a short thread.

reply

Red light district. Ooh la la

reply

Ahhh! Tonight's thread winner!

reply

All those electronic devices interrupting me when I'm listening to music to tell me I should lower the volume!

reply

'Lower the volume' ...I have a neighbor lady that yells at me about this

It's possible that I get a bit loud in my garage:/

reply

I thought you lived in the woods? Aren't your neighbours miles away? Just how many Marshall stacks do you have?

reply

They are all uncomfortably close...the wife to the right actively dislikes me because her hubby has enjoyed quite a few brews in my garage, the wife to the left seems to dislike my constant rock radio...I'm not a big hit with these neighborhood gals LOL...

Screw it, I'm going to blast Wings in the garage and tie one on!

I have a bit of everything here but I don't know what a Marshall Stack is...if you mean Shotguns I have 4πŸ‘

reply

Marshall is the go to amp for any heavy rock band. If you look at any rock video you'll see the obligatory wall of Marshall amps behind them. I know you like your Rock so it was my little joke.

I happen to have a portable Marshall Blu-tooth amp, which I use to play You Tube via my moby. It's about the size of a large loaf of bread, but boy does it crank it out.

reply

I should look into this..I have Guns and Roses playing now....it should probably be louder!

reply

Here you go, this is what I take with me when I go outdoors - worth every penny.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhuDbiZooCA

reply

The great thing about them is they go up to 11 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMSV4OteqBE&t=1m17s

reply

I didn't even have to watch the link, lol.

reply

My washing machine beeps like a bastard after a cycle.

reply

Let's unload a hail of bullets into beeping washer machines...They certainly have it coming!

reply

Everything in our kitchen beeps about something. I just go in there for alcohol now - my wife speaks fluent beep.

reply

Sounds like a good lady...Us guys are really not fluent in Beep lol...

reply

I hate the damned impatient gas pumps set to do that shrill beeping prompt with zero delay!

reply

I suspect its Skynet and yes, I'm scared!

reply

We don't have them here. Do they screech at you if you haven't removed the nozzle soon enough for their liking, or if you haven't put the nozzle in quickly enough?

Here we have those credit/debit card thingies at checkout that nag at you to remove your card ASAP.

reply

We have self-checkouts that tell you to "take your items" even though you're already picking them up.

reply

Either that or 'place the item in the bagging area'.

reply

Yeah I chuckle at that one when it's trying to catch up and the item's already there. I think the local Ralph's disabled the recorded voice prompts because they were slowing down the process. I think it's quiet now other than the scanner beep.

reply

We have a couple of stores with self-checkout, but I avoid them. It would be annoying for them to tell you to take your items when you already have πŸ˜‘

reply

I only use them when I have just a few things and the cashiers' lines are all busy.

reply

It's gotta be franchise-specific, but I used to live by one gas station where the pumps would just start screeching immediately at every step, like 1. remove card quickly, 2. enter PIN number or zip code or etc, 3. choose gas type, 4. get that pump now!!!!, 5. ITS DONE yeah I know you were watching but BEEP BEEP BEEP, 6. Receipt Yes/No

I don't think that's an exaggeration. It feels right.

reply

The ones we have here only nag at you about a receipt. Even though you've *already* said no/yes receipt at the beginning.

reply

I think that's what happens at the 76 down the street. Is that the same gas station chain you're describing?

reply

76 and Arco.

reply

I guess I'm lucky. The gas pumps here are mute. Or maybe I don't go to the right gas station - thankfully.

reply

The worst was a while back when one chain installed TVs at every pump island and blare non-stop commercials related to the station at you. There was no escape. Self-serve, so you were held captive. Thank god that didn't catch on.

reply

We do have those where I usually gas up. I have no problem ignoring them, though. I just do a little people watching while I wait. But the commercial chatter is certainly annoying. Most of the time I can hear the music they blare into the parking lot/gas pump area. πŸ€” Not sure why they do that since they drown out the ads, but I'm fine with it.

reply

Really? I thought this was a failed local experiment. No music at the ones I went to.

reply

The pump at my usual station asks:
Do you want to pay inside?
Do you want to use rewards points? (If yes, you need to enter your phone number. You earn points by buying certain items at the attached grocery store, which gets you up to 50 cents off per gallon).
Do you want a car wash?
Do you want a receipt?

Before the switch all it asked was if you want to pay inside or want a receipt. I got so frustrated the first time I used the new system. All I want is gas, for Pete's sake!

reply

Too many questions 😬

reply

No kidding! I was pretty annoyed, but I guess I've gotten used to it.

reply

It'd be very nice if companies got the memo that we all want things to be simpler, not take up more time and be more complicated.

reply

I automatically put seatbelts on at this point, even if parking around the corner, so haven't experienced this thankfully. Sounds irritating 😠

Your *fridge* nags at you to close the door? Think I'm grateful to have had older, much less fancy models in the places I've been.

reply

I do, too. It's so automatic that I do it even if all I'm doing is backing the car out of the garage, although I usually catch myself and don't do it then. My car's so old that it stops dinging after five dings. However there is a red light on the dash that stays on until the belt is buckled.

reply

I don't have a garage to back out of, but might put it on if I did. I think my car does the same -- some dings, then stops, then the red light stays on. Something went wrong with the sensor not too long ago and it stayed on even though I had the danged seatbelt on!

reply

That's annoying. I had a emergency brake warning light on one of my cars that eventually just stayed on. I solved it by putting a piece of electrical tape over the light.

reply

"I solved it by putting a piece of electrical tape over the light."

I literally spit out the sip of iced coffee I was drinking when I read that. *wipes keyboard*

reply

Sorry. 😬

reply

Laughter is always a good thing 😊

reply

So very true, but I'd rather not be responsible for ruining someone's keyboard.

reply

It's only slightly sticky :)

reply

Electrical tape is really quite amazing, so many things it can do.

Like, it'll tape something to a painted car surface or glass for as long as you want, and when you pull it off, 100% of the adhesive comes. Comes off like a weak magnet, great stick with zero slide yet it releases straight up effortlessly. It'll stick back just as well as long as you're not like getting dust and dirt on the sticky side.

Its not slightly magnetic either. Far from it. Plus it feels so neat.

reply

I hadn't thought about the fact that it doesn't leave residue, but you're right. It's handy for lots of things.

reply

I once had a warning light come on that told me that a light needed replacing in my car. I then spent the rest of my time in a state of paranoia wondering what would happen if the warning light needed replacing?!

reply

These crazy cars even ding when the tire pressure is low...the problem is it never tells you which tire!
C'mon car, if you're going to be helpful please be specific...you have 4 tires goddmmit Car!

reply

Not too long ago I had a warning light come on and I didn't know what it meant since I'd never seen it before. The next few times I drove the car, no light. But then it came back and stayed on for a couple of days. I couldn't figure it out until I finally pulled out the owner's manual. Turns out it meant low on coolant. It was a stupid symbol. Yes, I added coolant and the car was fine.

reply

Sometimes I miss the classic 'Stangs, Camaros, Trans-Ams and Novas...no stupid dashlights or the annoying pings...when they were thirsty for brake fluid or motor oil you just somehow knew it...they all ran like clocksπŸ‘

reply

I agree. Simpler was better; one reason I don't want a new car. Too many electronics, too many gadgets, etc. Sure, I know some of it is safety-related, but still... Although, a back-up camera would be nice.

reply

Terribly ashamed to admit this but I've been leasing new Fords for some years now...it's a bit pricy but I beat the hell out of them and don't even wash them off afterwards... I put these silly new Fords through the paces, hell, I busted the front end on my last one...no shits given🀘

I can retire in 9 years...then I'm buying a classic late 60s Mustang or Nova!
Those are cars I'd wash off!

reply

My brother owned a '69 Camaro like this one. Same color, too. It was his first car.

[deleted]

LOL. You, on that mower...πŸ˜„

reply

Nice ride...9 more crummy years at work and I'll buy something just like it!

reply

[deleted]

Wait, what? You leased your post count?

reply

[deleted]

You rebel, you.

reply

Ain't nobody dope like me, I'm dressed so fresh so clean... somehow this suits you Moose!

reply

The Moose is loose and he means what he's saying...whatever it is!

reply

[deleted]

I need to catch up on my Giallo movies...you are lapping me dude...I need to get on it!

reply

Oh you are a sneaky Pete, aren't you!

Sadly, I've got no skills as evidenced by my enormous post count and every joke that landed wrong:(
