A true crime case you follow or followed

One would be the Jon Benet Ramsey - I just want to know if the parents did it or not.

A Canadian one would be the Christine Jessop case. This case dominated the headlines here in Toronto in the mid 1980s to the mid 1990s.

I've had an unhealthy obsession with The Zodiac case for decades now
I read all of the books (twice!)
and have watched all of the docos repeatedly...I'm going with the experts here and saying The Zodiac probably wrecked his car and died in the wreckage or was arrested for some other terrible crime and rots in prison to this day...he would be about 70 at least by now...I guess we'll never know

reply

There's DNA evidence, he could be found like the Golden State Killer.

reply

The Golden State killer left evidence everywhere...in the interest of not being totally gross that guy raped dozens of women during his earlier crime sprees and his home invasions were the stuff of nightmares...the creep left 'evidence' everywhere:/

Zodiac was different, he wasn't fueled by sex or hatred
He killed for sport, he remains undetected to this day because he was a straight killer...he attacked at random, often in bright daylight and usually victimized young couples that would naturally be unarmed and too busy fooling around to even notice the impending attack

the Golden State Killer was a perverted scumbag, The Zodiac was as well...But we'll never see the capture of The Zodiac...he was an immensely frightening killer because he never screwed up like that piker Golden State killer dummy...that guy left his signature everywhere

Not that I'm rooting for any of these shitheads obviously...but The Zodiac was a truly scary assailant...The Golden State Killer was just a pervert in need of a proper life-ending beat down

reply

But back then he didn't know about DNA. He made the mistake of sending those letters for attention. They've solved several cold cases through genealogy sites. It's certainly a possibility.

reply

His stupid letter spree was certainly poor judgment...you are quite correct, the killers AND the detectives had no real knowledge of DNA science way back when...That's possibly why we never caught him

I'm not a fan of these awful killers and would prefer them all to find their end at the business end of a .38...The Zodiac just feels different...A pure psycho, nothing to do with sex or abuse, he simply came out of the woods and opened fire on young couples...except for that cab driver he shot to death...that one sticks in my craw for a number of reasons

We'll never know I guess..but the slaying of that cabby always felt a bit off to me...not really part of the pattern

reply

If that was the case the would have already found him (the Zodiac)

reply

And why exactly? More and more cases that are decades old are being solved because of new technology. And geneology websites are especially helpful these days. But there's no match unless the relevant people put their DNA in the database. The Golden State Killer wasn't found until 2018.

reply

Have you watched the David Fincher movie? Good, but painfully long!

reply

I've seen it a few times and really admire it
Any film about a true story you already know the ending of that still manages to ratchet up the tension to scary levels is a masterpiece...Fincher has made quite a few great ones but this might be his best

reply

I had forgotten about the Zodiac Ciphers: https://www.history.com/news/the-zodiac-ciphers-what-we-know

reply

I agree the zodiac case is extremely interesting!

reply

Currently, missing mom Jennifer Dulos here in New Canaan Ct.

reply

The case of Chris Watts who murdered his pregnant wife and two young daughters. The footage of his initial BS story and subsequent polygraph fail and confession were tough to look away from.

reply

The live telecast of his sentencing hearing was riveting.

reply

What about the Sam Gerard case??

reply

Are you referring to Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Gerard successfully tracking down fugitive Richard Kimble and also helped bring the real murderer of Helen Kimble to justice? Not true crime but one of my favorites nonetheless lol

reply

Yep, that's the one I meant :)

Whaddaya mean, not true crime? 😱 Richard Kimble lives!

reply

He also tracked down Wesley Snipes but that case wasn’t nearly as good ;)

reply

Good to know, I didn't follow that one very closely anyway :)

reply

Reminds me of that Peterson guy.

reply

Ugh that’s another POS. I remember following that one pretty closely at the time too.

reply

Was he the maniac that killed his wife and blamed 'black guys' for it?

Sadly, there have been a lot of these cases...

reply

I'm sure it would be easy enough to research. Someone already mentioned Laci. I didn't follow it actually, but it seemed to pop up everywhere. I think they looked like a nice couple and family but he wanted out in the WORST way.

reply

Laci drove a car full of her kids into a lake and that Peterson creep shot his wife if I recall...Jeez, divorce never sounded so polite and affordable!

reply

Wasn't Laci Scott Peterson's pregnant wife whom he killed?

The woman who drove her kids into the lake, can't think of her name, but good god, what a piece of work.

reply

Susan Smith!

reply

Yes, that's the one

Her mugshot is oddly pretty...people are nucking futs!

reply

Yeah, she was kind of pretty. Mostly I remember her from her fake crying, saying how upset she was her children were missing :(

reply

Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned but it is astonishing that a mother could do that and then stage a whole media show...it's a really disturbing scenario

reply

many guys thought she was hot.

reply

Aside from the psycho killer bit she was a pretty lady...no lie!

reply

She was murdered by Scott P while she was 8 months preg with their first. I read the wiki but some of the details aren't clear. She and the fetus were both found dead in San Francisco Bay. She was dismembered. Somehow the baby was in the uterus at the time of death but the article also says there was nylon tape around his neck. Might have just been junk in the water. Anyway, that's all I care to discuss about it.

reply

Jeez...Yeah, that was plenty enough chatting about that psycho, sorry we brought it up if I'm being honest

reply

That was Charles Stuart, who subsequently took the coward's way out.

reply

I looked it up...Life Insurance...obviously a despicable crime but who thinks they can get away with such a mad scheme?!?

Anyway, Adios to human trash:/

reply

[deleted]

Just watched an interesting segment of HLN's Lies, Crimes and Video which showed him taking a polygraph exam. He immediately tried to claim he didn't lie when confronted by the examiner and an FBI agent that he clearly failed. I've missed over half of this program already so I'm going to watch for an opportunity in the future to try again.

reply

The neighbors camera helped do the guy in.

God that's hard to read!

The car-bomb murder of Arizona Republic reporter Don Bolles in Phoenix, AZ in 1976. I lived there at the time, and obviously coverage by the media was extensive.

reply

OJ of course

Edit to add: Laci Peterson

Slender man stabbing

reply

This one has haunted me since the news first broke the day it went down, live updates and all for the last 20 minutes.

Spiritually and emotionally traumatizing.

reply

The Springfield Three

I don't know exactly how JonBenet died, but her parents were obviously involved.

Don't you mean the case of Christine Jessop, since Morin has been cleared?

reply

Christine Jessop was the young girl who was killed, I should have mentioned her name. Morin was also a victim in this crime. The cops focused on him because he was a neighbor who was quiet and played the clarinet. There's a joke around here - guilty of murder for playing the clarinet. Great book on this case titled Redrum the Innocent.

I am inclined to agree with you on Jon Benet. The parents were involved somehow.

reply

Police solved the Jessop case from 1984 through DNA. Big news here today. The killer was known to the family and died in 2015. Calvin Hoover was his name.

reply

I feel awful for Morin for living under the shadow of the worst imaginable sort of crime for so long
His head must be spinning

reply

Some of the original cops who investigated the case thought Morin was still guilty even after another man's semen was found at the scene. Tunnel vision at its worst.

reply

That's fantastic news. They just arrested some guy for the 1984 kidnapping and murder of Jonelle Matthews as well. It's unfortunate that the POS that murdered Christine is dead. It happens too often.

reply

Morin must be more pissed than ever given that the guy worked for or knew the family.
