Is Catbookss right?

Do we lack a substantial membership of women here on MC?
I feel like we have lots of active female posters...I would hope that we do!

Let's settle this...I'm a male
What are you?

reply

I'm a Cabbage Patch. (a male one)

reply

I have long suspected this but was afraid to mention my suspicions😉...well done, that's 2 for male

I really hope a bunch of ladies show up
A proper 50/50 male to female crowd seems perfect to me

I always associated hownos with this theme music:

That could work as well!

I fight for the titties.

I dig that song but is it really a man's world?
I'd say the gals account for at least 50% of the smart posts here and I'd be lost without my wife and sister...

reply

I think that it still is a man's world. We have not achieved equality yet, and I think that there are too many women who participate in the patriarchal system.

But I think it's getting better all the time. I honestly think that for the most part MC is a pretty decent place. I don't reveal my gender on many boards because they are just too toxic and I do not have time for that.

That has just been my experience though. :)

reply

If I'm being really honest here I tend to think women mostly run everything, especially if the guy in her life is honest and reasonable
I know for a fact that my wife and little Sis are WAY smarter than me

I cannot say 'no' to my wife or sister no matter how crazy their schemes are...and believe me, they are both a bit kooky sometimes!

Anyway, it's an interesting topic to discuss, I just hope our MC women feel comfortable and welcome here...this is NOT a 'boy's club'

reply

Sometimes it does feel like a boys' club here, Shogie.

Don't get me wrong, I love MC and many of the folks here, but sometimes it has too much of a locker room vibe for me.

reply

I think you know that I adore you Cat and I have a very strong interest in seeing our site thrive...please tell me what us guys are posting that's really pushy or not comfortable for our Lady users...I fear I might be part of the macho-bro problem but I would amend my ways if needed👍

reply

Perhaps you went to sleep Dear Cat...I suppose I'm a bit of a caveman but I do think I and the other Cavemen tend to behave pretty well here on MC...If our female users have suggestions to make this great site more welcoming I'd be happy to do my best but have patience...I've been called an idiot by more than a few women and mostly for good reasons!

I quite dislike the thought that our female users feel left out or ignored...that just doesn't sit right with me, not one bit Cat😼

I love knowing you and Glen, K and Stratego and a bunch of other great ladies here ...I suppose I'm sort of boy-ish, always going on about tools and my cars and my stupid garage...I hate to think I've alienated you Cat...I consider you a friend, even if I sometimes go on at length about trucks and lawn mowing...it's just guy talk and I can't help it

I'll tell you this as a parting truth sweet lady, the boys drive the traffic here but you gals are the soul of the joint, the brains...😘love 'ya Cat

reply

😘 I did go off to sleep, dear Shog. I very much appreciate your willingness to listen and care that it's not always woman-friendly around here.

Oh, the guy-talk is fine when it comes to cars, tools, lawns and all that. That's not the problem. Heck, GE mows her lawn, and I was bemoaning the loss of Craftsman tools with you.

I could do without the locker room talk. That right there excludes women from participating, and the objectification of it, 😐

There is a fair amount of sexism here. Not so bad in GD, but it happens. You and Frog are the main two who are willing to call people on it, and I really appreciate that. It's much more effective when a guy calls another guy on it. Same as if I called a woman out on being sexist about men.

But on the boards of virtually any female celeb, good effing god, it's rampant. The comments are usually awful. It's gotten so I dread looking when I see one on Trending.

I completely agree ssissg.

okely dokely!

ssissg,

I just “seen” this article. Times are a changin’. But, we have achieved equality...in fact we are surpassing men.

“New Report: Women CEOs Make More Than Men”

https://www.forbes.com/sites/karinagness/2017/05/31/new-report-women-ceos-make-more-than-men/#258d8ee62da9

reply

I'm sorry to disagree with you, but women have not achieved equality. The end of the article even says

It’s great to see women CEOs doing well and they deserve to be compensated for their contributions. Women should applaud the success of working women at all levels of our economy. Yet we shouldn’t fixate too much on statistics like this one that make good headlines, but don’t tell us much of the story.

So even though the few are making more than men, there are so few female CEOs that we still have a long way to go https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/21/2018s-fortune-500-companies-have-just-24-female-ceos.html

I would also say that equality is more than just equal pay. While the western world is doing much better, you can look at the articles written about how Twitter is toxic for females. I shared an article on Catbookss' post about the perils of being an opinionated woman on the internet.

I appreciate the strides we've made, but society can do better.

reply

I agree.

reply

Granted, too frequently social media is toxic to females due to the anonymity of most posters. But, there are those who post openly. We have come to a place in society where anything goes and can be written. We don’t have the courage to express ourselves civilly face to face to someone with whom we disagree. It’s much easier to pound out our frustrations on a keyboard....in other words we don’t have to “hold our tongue”.

You do make some good points, but I believe we women *have* broke through the glass ceiling. I look forward to the day when a woman will be looked upon as actually earning her position...not that she slept her way to the top! Work place relations are getting better, but we women also have much to do in order to be on par with men. Years ago I was the office “gal/girl” (thank goodness the vernacular has changed) for a road construction company. I frequently had to remove myself from the tiny office trailer due to several bigwigs visiting. There was an event when one of those bigwigs (prick!) lingered back until it was only him and me left in the trailer. I thought is was just business. It was not! Before exiting he grabbed my breasts! I was stunned and frozen. I could not react. If today, he would be picking up his teeth with a broken arm!

I was in the work force for 30 years. I had the opportunity to notice how some women dressed for the work force. Revealing attire was worn by some and it still occurs today. They dress with short tight skirts along with low cut blouses. Watch the back side of a woman wearing a tube skirt with stilettos. She most definitely walks differently from a man. She then shouts sexism! I believe how women present themselves is the tone they receive back. I admit there are times when a woman is a victim of assault, either verbally or physically, just for being a woman! The, excuse my language, pricks feel they are dominate over women. But, slowly this type is being weeded out....separating the chaff from the wheat.

I’m a bloke.

Frankly, I'm quite mixed up now as well and wouldn't have it any other way LOL

Let's agree to continue being mixed up together...it quite suits us!

And then there's the lurkers...
I lurk more than I post..

Nothing wrong with lurking!
It's a good way to avoid trouble which I frequently find myself in LOL!
