Do you have any phobias?

I personally think that I have globophobia, which is a fear of balloons.

Hornets and wasps. Just no.

I know the feeling and it’s because you can’t control them once you being attacked. I’m an outdoorsman and everything where I live can be dealt with pretty easily. But find yourself out in the middle of nowhere, alone and miles from a hospital and stumble into a large hornets nest. I hate to even think about it.

😫

reply

Exactly. There's really no fighting them off which is scary. The worst I've come across are bald faced hornets. Now those are some mean, aggressive bastards - more so than yellow jackets and wasps.

Saw this on the news recently.

The article closed saying:

“if a super nest can't be avoided, don't try to dispose of it yourself, as that can end badly.”

I was thinking the same thing!

Padeen, I’m not sure if they were “bald faced” hornets but a few years back at a scrap yard they ripped open an old camper with a crane and all these big black and white hornets flew out. I was standing right by it and I started running wide open and the hornets started stinging the back of my head and neck. It honestly felt like I was being hit by something thrown at me with each sting. I wonder if those were bald face ones as you say. I’ve never seen any like those since.

reply

The description sounds about right. The color pattern is more white compared to other hornets.

I've got a phobia of

Rats
Flying Rats aka Pigeons
Dogs
Houses with outdated decor

I had to turn down looking after a kindly old ladies cat because her house grosses me out, she's a nice person but it looks like her house was last decorated in about 1974 and the old furniture and garish carpets and horrible wallpaper just makes me feel like I'm going to get a disease.

Oddly enough I'm fine looking round National Trust houses and a lot of that stuff is probably from a lot before 1970 whatever.

reply

Pigeons? What’s wrong with pigeons? I have a big coop where I keep pigeons and they are smart and affectionate.

reply

Heights. Even just a few feet off the ground, or sometimes even standing on the ground but looking up at something high up, starts to make me dizzy and turn my legs to jello. Get me too far off the ground and I freeze up.

Also moths, as I mentioned in a reply elsewhere on the thread.

And throwing up. I hate that.

Do you fly in planes?

reply

I haven't in a long time, but not due to this; I just haven't really had occasion to do it. But all the times I did fly (a few times during childhood and once as a teenager), for some reason being in a plane didn't affect me. I don't really understand why, because when I went to the top of the space needle in Seattle I was getting ready to faint. I almost screamed in the elevator lol, which would have been... awkward. But being in a plane didn't bother me at all and I was fine looking out the window and down at the distant ground. I'm not sure why it was different from being in the space needle, where looking down almost made me pass out. Logically I should have had the same reaction, but I didn't. There's something different about planes.

reply

I have a fear of heights, and of throwing up. Pretty much have gotten over fearing throwing up now, but not the heights.

Being in a plane doesn't bother me either. It's because the height at that point is abstract, plus you feel secure enough in a big, solid-feeling plane surrounding you. You'd have probably been fine in the Space Needle if it didn't have all those windows 😬

reply

I have no fears. I'm not afraid of anything.

reply

Guns make me nervous.

reply

Guns are another thing I don't really like, for much the same reason; the loud noises they make, similar to when balloons pop.

reply

I had agoraphobia for 3 years.
