Dry eyes
I've had dry eyes for several years. Don't know why it started. I have to use eye drops five or six times a day. I wonder what causes this.

shareI get the dry eyes too, but just as often they are weepy...been going on a couple years
It's maddening and uncomfortable
We may both have allergies we are unaware of
My eye doctor said weepy eyes can also be caused by the body overreacting to dry eyes. You go from one extreme to the other.
shareUnless it is a specific medical condition, it can be caused by
Old age
Living in a dry environment
But I'm only 16 and I live in the tropics...maybe I'm allergic to this sexy grass skirt!
Ah, who am I kidding, I'm 46 and trapped in New York...
I am wearing a sexy grass skirt though...the neighbors are not very happy;)
I live in Reno where it is dry (originally from NYC). About 18 months ago I literally started seeing spots before my eyes. I went to an optometrist who recommended over-the-counter eye drops (NOT Visine or any other marketed for red eyes) and it worked. She told me that being older in a dry environment was the cause. (I was 58 at the time)
shareI had an issue a few years ago with dry eyes and I could feel the veins in my eyes stinging. I kept blinking in that one eye. It last months and just went away. I feel your frustration.
shareI have dry eyes due to lasik eye surgery. I use eye drops every day and I use an ointment at night. If your optometrist isn't too concerned you should be okay.
I chickened out from having laser surgery about ten years ago. Did everything go fine with yours?
shareOther than the dry eyes yeah. It's been great for scuba diving.
shareI'm too scared to have lasar surgery or any other kind of medical procedure on my eyes. The last time I went to a opthomologist I was told I should have cataract surgery. No thanks.
shareI've had cataract surgery. For the first time in my life I don't need corrective lenses to drive. Wore glasses or contacts for years. Now I only need glasses for reading or small detail things. I was nervous about it, but I'm so glad I had the surgery.
shareI decided against even exploring lasik surgery. I figured I'd be one of the unlucky ones who suffer some complications.
sharesometimes i regret not going through with it. i am so myopic.
shareI was, too. Myopic, that is. Until the cataract surgery. I didn't realize that the surgery would also correct the myopia. Vision in the first eye they did is not quite as good as the second eye, but still completely acceptable since I don't need glasses to drive. I'm too old for contacts now, anyway.
shareTry sea buckthorn.
shareI'm caught in a conundrum - I don't have air conditioning so I have to run the fans on hot days. But that dries my eyes so I end up with weepy eyes. It's a trade-off, to be sure, but I'll stick with using the fans, though. Melting in the heat is worse.
shareA possible solution Glenny...the appliance stores will be looking to get rid of their Air Conditioning units just now with fall coming on
Buy a pair of 5-6k btu ACs and enjoy
You can likely get them for $80-90 and they will last for years
Storage is easy too, the small units can store in the bottom of a closet
No more runny eyes, I have a few allergies so I know how annoying fans can be
Window units? I had one but hated the dang thing. Noisy, only cooled one room, and expensive to run. I simply don't have the money to put in central air so I deal with the consequences as best I can. Doesn't mean I won't whine from time to time, though. π¬
shareYou can override the noise by playing 'rainstorm' or 'whale songs' or something on a phone or tablet on your nightstand...one fan blowing the ice all over the crib should keep you quite comfy...
The noise becomes an issue when I can't hear my music or the TV without turning the sound up high. I sleep just fine with a fan blowing on me. The window unit I had could cool the bedroom okay, but it's not powerful enough to use in the living/dining room, so it seemed pointless. I'll live with my circumstances as they are. π Besides, aren't I stronger by having to deal with nature's elements?? π
shareIf you think you're stronger you probably areπ
shareNah, I'm probably a bit of a wimp. I've learned, at my advanced age, what my limits are, so I do my best to avoid situations I have difficulty dealing with. But like I said, that doesn't mean I won't complain from time to time. Oops. Let's call it "venting."
