Slowpoke.

"Moist," just so people can get over it, if you know what I mean.

I don't love it though. I love "Cunt" because of it's power to shock people.

I love the word 'hiraeth', but it just isn't applicable to much.

Definition:

'Hiraeth' is a word which cannot be completely translated, meaning more than solely "missing something" or "missing home." It implies the meaning of missing a time, an era, or a person - including homesickness for what may not exist any longer. It is associated with the bittersweet memory of missing something or someone, while being grateful of that/ their existence. It can also be used to describe a longing for a homeland, potentially of your ancestors, where you may have never been.

Also, I love the word shenanigans. It hasn't died out completely, but it could use a resurgence.

I think the closest analog to this is Wistful.

Its very apropos, even poignant, for this word to be a bit lost.

reply

Wistful is good, but a little vague. It is poignant to lose such a cool word.

I've lately had a bit of a romance with some British colloquialisms (love that word, too), such as "sodding". For example: "I just hit my sodding thumb with a hammer!". I also like "blimey". Especially when it's used incorrectly like Kevin Kline used it in A Fish Called Wanda: "Blimey fish!!"

reply

I do enjoy pulling out "bloody" every so often, and theres another Britticism I use regularly but I can't recall it at the moment.

Also I just made up Britticism but I seriously doubt I'm the first.

reply

I've actually noticed a fair bit of "bloody" being thrown around, here in the states.

reply

Bugger. I use this a lot.

reply

Rubbish. A great word. The only place I think it is spoken in America is Hawaii, from long ago British influence (after all, the Union Jack is on the Hawaii State Flag)

baubles

Great word indeed

reply

After-wise. "Wise afterwards or too late" -- or in other words, the perfect term for describing that feeling of knowing exactly what you should have said (or done) after the opportunity to say it (or do it) has passed you by.

reply

Hugger-mugger - To act in a secretive manner.

reply

Crapulous - To feel ill because of excessive eating/drinking. I suspect a lot of us here could use this word.

Lol nice

It might be me tomorrow. 😉
