The 1992 Election Spoiler Ross Perot Has Died

Gee! Thanks for nothing!

reply

He didn't spoil anything.

IMO, it sure seemed so. I just read the following:

“It's true that GW Bush had the lowest popular votes (39%) of any sitting president, and Ross Perot gathered a popular vote of almost 20%. Bill Clinton got almost forty five percent (45%). It's very possible that Perot played spoiler, and the world would be much better off had he withdrawn, and GW Bush had been reelected, even though Perot got no electoral votes.

As it is, Bill Clinton gave Osama bin Laden new life by allowing Sandy Burger, the national security advisor to disallow missiles to be launched against him when a drone had discovered him in 1998, at a training base in Afghanistan. Had he executed a shoot order, bin Laden would have been dead, and 9/11 plans would have stopped without the terrorist leader there to finance it.”

You got your NAFTA. Clinton carried out the Bush agenda even better than Bush himself.

reply

I didn’t want NAFTA! I don’t care what the powers that be say....it killed jobs and industry. I can’t begin to tell you how disgusted I am when looking at the tag or stamp “Made in ***”. Take your pick...it sure won’t be the USA!

reply

You really want to lay this all on Clinton v G-H!-WB? You can't possibly think some war hawk like GHWB would have taken a more sensible course. I respect GHWB but I figure both pols would have followed a similar course. It's the rethugs who came later that made everything much more toxic and dangerous.

reply

Yeah, I was a Bush supporter and pissed off at Perot at the time as well...

Still, RIP Ross
His attempt to and respectable success at invigorating a viable and sorely needed third party in American politics was admirable
He pulled a sizable number of disappointed voters together which may have sent a message to the big two

Dana Carvey's impersonation

Carvey nailed the Ross impression right there but he was on the edge laughing the entire time😂
Good stuff!

I thought Bush Sr deserved re-election but there was a short but nasty recession which brought him down.

Also, it’s hard to believe there are people who turn on a dime, but they did when Bush looked at his watch during the last debate. Another time when people turned on that dime, was when Obama got a bear hug from New Jersey’s Gov. Chris Christie after the devastating storm Sandy. At no time in history has a U.S. president been re-elected with the economy in the tank as it was in 2012. Obama was affable.

The other side of the coin...we now have the best economy in decades, but there’s a chance Trump won’t be re-elected. People don’t like him as a person. It doesn’t matter if they weren’t working before the 2016 election, but are now. Folks used to vote with their pocketbook...now it’s with their feelings.

Middle America doesn't want a creepy jerk like Trump being Prez. I don't care if he shits gold ingots, he's a dummy, a jerk and a creep. If this is the America you want to live in, I guess you are getting rich these last couple years.

reply

The recession doomed him and he also fiddled about with taxes which he said he wouldn't do

I voted for him anyway, I really admired the man

He was a fine American fellow

He wasn't a spoiler if he forced both parties to appeal to disenfranchised voters. Bush Senior was on the nose for not connecting with people. He looked at his watch after a debate, as though he was put out having to defend his positions on issues.

I think had Bush Senior had a younger looking wife, like Trump does, he wouldn't have been seen as such an old man. Yes, what woman you have on your arm does help shape our perception of someone's age.

His wife looked like his mother. She didn't dye her hair and didn't look after her figure. Look at this picture, she really looked very old. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:George_et_Barbara_Bush_-_1992.jpg

Now look how young the Clintons looked https://media.vanityfair.com/photos/54cc0450998d4de83ba48f66/1:1/w_493,h_310,c_limit/image.jpg

It was time for a new generation in the Whitehouse.

What is the saying “Behind every great man there is a woman!” Or nowadays who knows who’s behind that “great man”? It’s either a he/she or a gender neutral...an it!

Re: Barbara Bush and Hillary. Big point difference...everyone liked Mrs. Bush. Half the country didn’t like or trust Hillary. Maybe if she had “stayed home and baked those cookies”, but she was too busy cooking deceits with Whitewater.

BTW, you’re going to be and look old someday. Old age doesn’t demean a person...unless they’re crotchety! 😬
