That Could NEVER Be Made Today?

Whats so special about today? Movies or comedy, etc... And its usually the only good stuff. So what the hell is left? Sanitized, manufactured bullshit? Where will our soul nutrition come from? People need to fight back against censorship. And not only for selfish reasons... Principles.

I hate the typical, "Well you see, our audience is from the ______, that won't fly" - do you grow them on farms? I'd also ask, "Is your audience is comprised of people, becase well, IM a person. Are you saying I can't decide what is suitable for me?" (especially when you are/were a fan of ________)

And what is your difference between now and 5 years ago? Did you just suddenly changed because a few other dummies did? I doubt it. But too many people aren't willing to speak their mind, against everyone (if you must). THOSE are the people who make differences, not sheep.

P.S. - I'm not necessarily looking for examples. I just wonder why?

True
And a real shame
This movie made a total mockery of racism brilliantly

Modern film makers and audiences lack the guts to go that far

Too bad:/

Another question people should ask is, "How many movies WERENT made in the last 40 years?" because of this bullshit. Self-righteous grifters.

Might as well get used to the fact that we are all fucked. Once context became the red headed step child of conversation, we were all doomed to die in a hail of environmentally friendly, gluten free, bullets. No one wants to hear what you actually meant any more, only what it can be twisted into to make you a cartoon villain. Everybody joined a team on the global stage, but no one really knows what the game is or what the rules are and even if they did the rules change, and you have no chance of keeping up. Fake news is everywhere, but no one believes its all bullshit, no its just whatever jives with the manufactured narrative that you were told to believe by that really small news outlet with a really large footprint thats really main stream but not main stream enough to be the mainstream media that spreads the all the fake news.

The day we see another great uncensored entertainer on tv is the day that we know some dopey cunt pushed the button. And we'll watch with tears of joy in our eyes at the comedy genius that makes up a great long winded tale with an out of the blue punch line and the reflection of giant penis shaped weapons of extinction crashing into our neighbours house behind us. And before we die in a blistering haze of heat and fire, the last thought we will have is about the first wank we ever had. The juxtaposition of feeling both ecstasy and deep humiliation and resentment. And in that instant, we will know a fundamental truth. That you should have stopped reading this shit post long before now.

Can you imagine how watered down and censored Blazing saddles would be if they tried to make it today.

reply

The establishment lacks the guts to even attempt making such a film today

Audiences would gasp, there would be damaging headlines, excellent movie makers would be branded as racists...

It would be a hell of a mess!

reply

We've become sensitive to everything. We can't even say an honest opinion about something without somebody reaching thinking that it's sexism or racism.

There is a film from the 70s called Murder by Death. It's got an amazing cast and the lead is Peter Sellers who plays a Chinese man. You can't help but laugh how ridiculous he is. He has an Asian son in the movie and there is a recurring joke where Peter Sellers always addresses that he is his adopted son. If this film was made today there would have been an uproar about a white man playing an Asian man, and the fact that he always had to stress "adopted" when referring to his son. It definitely couldn't be made today.

Reminds me of Mickey Rooney'a role in Breakfast at Tiffany's. I still cringe at that portrayal.

reply

That was highly cringey 😬

reply

Some things you can chalk up to the times a film/TV show was made, but not this one. I will not believe that back then there was no Asian actor who could have played this role and still been believable/appropriate/whatever as a complaining neighbor.

reply

Thats why we need controversial films

reply

I'm so desperate, I'd settle for just "good", but I'm not holding my breath, and look for older movies, but one day I'll run out :(

reply

Right
That show would never be made today
I still recall the uproar over it 30+ years ago

It remains a classic👍

reply

I think its still on TV, though...

Pretty much any teenage sex comedy from the 80s. Porkys, Revenge of the Nerds, Screwballs, hell even American Pie all contain scenes of spying on women in states of undress which probably wouldn't fly today. More disturbing is the scene in Revenge of the Nerds where Louis essentially rapes Betty by pretending to be her boyfriend.

If the authorities gave directors 5% freedom, they'd only use 2% anyway.

reply

They said that about All In The Family and just a month ago ABC showed a literal redo of the 1973 episode "Henry's Farewell." As far as Married with Children goes that will get rebooted at some point. It was never racist and that is what most people get up in arms about not sexism.

reply

Even if it was, so what? Why run away from reality? I never liked either show, but I'm sure many do. 99% of what I love was made before I was born, but there were some good shows in the 90s, "The Larry Sanders Show" being my favorite.
