Would lowbrow humor like this work today

Feminist,SJW and PC culture has become so thick and overbearing in todays climate.I feel like humor like this would never make it to air now a days.Modern network sitcoms are so formulaic and family friendly. This show was funnier than most of the sitcoms on the air now.

reply

Would it make it to the air? No, ma'am.

Oh wait that's the National Organization of Men Against Amazonian Masterhood.

That video was just hysterical.

reply

I’m guessing you just mean cbs, abc, nbc etc and not the cable networks like FX? It’s always sunny is lowbrow and popular. As is South Park.

reply

Just the broadcast networks.I don't see shows with lowbrow humor like It's always sunny and South park ever making it to air on network tv.

reply

Then yeah, never again will we see the likes of al bundy on network tv. Although the melt down the next day if it did would be fucking epic!

reply

Very funny stuff and yes, much funnier than anything on the networks today

I doubt it would be on the regular stations today, maybe cable or streaming

I loved Al

reply

Amazing how timeless those clips are. As hilarious today as they were back then.

My reply magically doubled itself. I’m leaving this note instead of deleting the duplicate because I usually think a deleted post means the poster chickened out!

I misunderstood your topic by reading the title. I thought you meant lowest-common-denominator loved-by-dimwits garbage like The Hangover. THAT is low-brow, low-rent, zero-wit-having afterbirth. Married . . . With Children is classic, chanse-taking comedy. It demands an audience with wit, not one with cell phones. Would it work today? Sure, as others have said, off-air. Showtime’s SMILF was in the same vein. But let me pose a parallel question: would Cheers work today? Unlike Married, Cheers is not (gloriously!) culturally incorrect, but the writing is as sharp and witty as any other TV show I’ve seen; yet it has no peer on the networks today? Why not? My guess is that our species has collectively become too stupid to appreciate it, so there is no market for a Cheers in 2019.

Nothing you post is worth reading once kane...it was impossible to read both gigantic walls of text:/

You are are a huge bore

I could see a show written as well as Cheers getting aired on broadcast networks today. But not Married with children. The Al Bundy's and Archie Bunkers of tv would never be greenlit on network tv in todays easily offended society that can't distinguish the difference between humor and offense.

I watched this reaction video of teens watching scenes from Seinfeld the other day and was shocked by their reaction. This is a revered classic.I thought how can anyone find something wrong with Seinfeld. But they just kept seeing offense in some of the humor.Phrases like this would not happen today and sexist were thrown out. When did we become a society of humorless uptight babies.
