Do you think getting fired is bad?

One time my friend said that getting fired was worse than walking off and another time said that it was whatever.

Do you think you're a troll?

Thank You!!!! 😱 Egads!!!

To be fair, his thread titles are improving. There was a time when it would have been just, ‘Do you think’. So, there’s that I guess.

It’s just a set back to turn into another opportunity.

I loved it. Like I said, I loved how the 2 women in the small boat were so able and prepared but when encountering slow moving blind knights templar they could not even walk without getting their foot stuck in something. One of the guys looked a lot like John Holmes. Lol

The ending was perfect!

Of course. It's damaging to your resume.

Assuming you mean fired for cause and not simply laid off, yeah it's worse than walking off. However I'd say getting laid off is better than walking off because you'd be able to collect unemployment (generally when you're fired for cause or walk off, you won't qualify for unemployment benefits).

reply

This is what I was thinking. To me, getting fired means for cause - naughty, naughty. After the Great Recession when so many folks were laid off you would think a layoff would not detrimental at all. I've never been fired but have been laid off twice.

i got pushed out of the company i was with for almost 20 years some time back.
not fired, but close enough.
18 months severance & 9 months of unemployment benefits.
best thing that ever happened to me.

Depends on your employment history. If you can leave the employer off your resume and it not be something that sets alarm bells off in an employer's mind, then no. But if you work at a place for six years and leave a six-year gap on your resume, it's gonna work against you. Also, does the employer who fired you have the power to blacklist you to potential employers?

I would say in general it's not the best because no matter the circumstances, it usually reflects badly on the person who got fired rather than who did the firing.

reply

It's very painful.

Yes. It happened to my dad twice in less than 5 years back in the early 2000s, and not only made it hard for him to find work, but also ruined his morale for a time, and we didn't have much money to live on with his unemployment checks. It took over a year and a half before another power plant was willing to hire him again.

Yeah, it was "nice" to have unemployment payments, but being fired still leaves a stain on your record. Plus, the second time he was fired, it was done unjustly. He was working for a really lousy power company that was being badly mismanaged, he was on the road ALL THE TIME, unlike his last power plant jobs, and he got fired for wanting to see his family more than once in a blue moon. That company got what was coming to them, though. They went under a few months after booting him.
