Why are they speaking english in Schindler's list?
It doesn't make sense.
shareMany english speakers don't like to read subtitles.
shareyou could say that about a lot of movies.
shareIt really does bother me a lot also when it is a serious film. I love foreign films in native language with English subtitles.
shareIt's not a foreign film. Having said that I do like it when a movie featuring both foreign characters and domestic characters have it that the foreign characters speak their native language, such as The Longest Day or Tora! Tora! Tora! On the other hand it doesn't bother me at all when the foreigners speak English, like The Great Escape or Midway. I don't think there are any native English speaking parts in Schindler's list, so it does make sense that the film is in English, as it is an American made film, such as Valkyrie with Tom Cruise.
shareDoesn't make sense that ancient Romans always speak English with a British accent either. Not that I wanted Latin or Greek dialogue with subtitles, but still.
shareThis is such a petty complaint. Personally I don't know any language but English so I really don't want to watch an entire movie in subtitles and miss cool things happening on the screen that I can't see because I am too busy reading subtitles to notice them.
shareThere are millions of people around the world who watch entire movies in subtitles every single day and I can assure you they don't miss cool things happening on the screen that they can't see because they're too busy reading subtitles to notice them .
shareThe older I get the more I don't like subtitles (agreeing with greengoblins), but really, the dubbed version of "Das Boot" just isn't the same! German language with subtitles sooo much better!
shareProject much?
Someone who is fine speaking only one language, and thinks he misses something on screen while reading subtitles is the petty one.
Have you ever seen an English language movie in a foreign country (in a theater) with that country's language in subtitles? I did once. It's a weird experience!
