Boards are dead all over despite them being copied from IMDb

Since IMDb banished the forums from their site (and this one copied it), all of the threads and various boards spread out are disentangled from the entirety of the IMDb site itself, which means many (most?) boards have become a ghost town. Since you can't normally go on IMDb and rate or review/check out a title and then go to the message boards, this site is like a copy of the boards broken apart from the main (and important) structure of IMDb itself.

For this reason the majority of the site that would've had active boards otherwise (like IMDb years back) is now going to be mostly dead boards since few people will come here to just seek out boards themselves, as opposed to on IMDb where it was all tied together.

I figure most of you here know this, but thought I'd explain why this place is a weak attempt to continue the message board system onward. It is sad in a way, but I guess better than nothing. The thing is that as long as this place and IMDb remain separate, there will never be an equivalent amount of traffic and interlinking between IMDb itself and reviews, ratings and the boards all unified and active. This place is like a limb cut off that's kept alive still on the side, but is no longer part of the main body in which it can connect and work with as a whole.

What's sad is people pissing on something that they don't have the ambition or skill to build themselves.

Moviechat has 694 discussion threads covering every imaginable angle of the movie Avengers:Endgame. How many Avengers:Endgame threads are on IMDb? 0

IMDb had 20 years to build their traffic. MC has been here for 2. Give it a few years and let's re-examine the state of affairs then.

we get one of these posts every few months or so. imdb is not coming back.

my comment was in reference to the OP's post.

It’s a little odd that someone with a total of 3 post would decide to make such a thread here.

What he has is an obvious point, what oft was thought and oft more well expressed.

It's most certainly odd Mojo but I really enjoy welcoming newcomers so we can build a big crowd here

Sure, some are just being pests for whatever reason but sometimes we find a gem

Ged and Cod were brand new once, we embraced them and they have been solid

Open arms I say, if they are trolling then 'HAHA, you got me' lol

SolemNMime, I’m sorry if I came across the wrong way and I do hope you will stay and contribute. This forums truly is a great place for film discussion and many other topics as well.

Welcome! 🙂

No issues!

I used to hang around IMDb with the message boards there and it was fun for the most part.

I like this place so I will stick around. Wish it was like it before with all the activity and subjects, but at least it's something good so far.

Sometimes I see posts crossed over from IMDB. I can tell by my user name I used there.

Any post that doesn't have a number in parenthesis next to the poster's name was originally made on IMDb.

TexasJack gave you the perfect response Mime

MC is building toward something important...a site with lots of entertainment discussions, some interesting debates, silly topics that are very fun and a general air of mutual respect for other users
Check out other entertainment sites and witness the garbage that passes for sly banter:/
Sites take time to build up the numbers

Our Mods are quite fair (and yes, I've been given the 'old wrist slap' a couple of times, but all of that was my fault,) and we happily greet newcomers SolemnMime

Welcome to MC, I hope you enjoy it as much as many others do

If you choose to bounce I hope you find a site more to your liking✌️

Thanks for explaining how this place is a weak attempt to continue the (IMDb) message board system. Please could you condescend to us a little more.

I think the meaning behind my post was misunderstood (and I provably could've worded it better).

What I mean is that I am disappointed more with IMDb than this site. I am all for this site and trying to preserve the original boards -- just stating that these boards -- although exact copies -- mostly remain inactive and unlike when they were on IMDb.

I know I'm new here, but it is true that most places that would've been active (when IMDb still had the boards many titles or etc. would have tons of activity -- even lesser known ones) are now untouched since the IMDb message board elimination basically.

So I wasn't bashing this place or saying I hated it outright -- what I meant by "weak" was not anywhere near the same as when it was all part of IMDb. Now so many boards that would have active posts/activity/etc. are now dead or have much fewer posts (this does apply to most stuff).

I know this place is fairly new too, but I don't see it gaining the same activity or traction IMDb had. Also, you have to consider that even if this did become similar to the activity before with the IMDb boards, there still would exist the clear disconnection between being able to seamlessly do everything in one with an IMDb account (like you can't rate here or write a review -- you'd need to always have this side as the "side piece" for discussion).

We appreciate the clarification as your original post did seem a bit condescending. The other thing is the old IMDB-ers have been cast to the winds, spread among multiple sites.

One of the best ways to stimulate conversations is to post, respond, even if it's an old comment, or make one that's a repeat of one written ages ago. Sure, you may not get a response right away, but hang in there. Someone will show up.

Welcome! Hang around and be part of this community.

Fair enough, but don't forget first impressions count. You'll find we're mostly a friendly bunch here - Good Luck!

Still better than IMDb boards. They had zero traffic last year.
