This was my reply and I didn't even read the thread first Moose!
Great minds think alike๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I first heard this album all the way through around Senior year of high school
Most of us were metal fans but the 'Grunge' sound seemed really cool
I was flirting with a journalism college student at a local house party and somebody brought the CD to play...

At a certain point I felt like Journalism Girl was talking down to me so I asked 'Yeah, but what are you really going to do when you grow up?' lol...I didn't get that phone number:)
Shortly after that debacle my ex-girlfriend showed up with her brother and his irritating goon squad...I had recently banged up her Renault Alliance and a couple of the goons with a metal softball bat

I slipped out the back door to escape a jumping but I never forgot Nirvana๐Ÿ‘

Rock is a very wide genre, from Rage Againts the Machine to Eric Clapton to Nirvana.

For me though, the greatest 90s rock album would be Bon Jovi - Cross Road.

Because I never got bored of the songs. Even today, most of the songs keep on rocking. And it cannot be replicated today. Hair rock / hair metal era is gone and done. It was great but it won't come back anytime soon.

But if it includes all time, not only 90s albums, I would choose G'nR - Appetite for Destruction.

I just can't do this - there's too many (great problem to have though).

The Use Your Illusion albums, which probably should count as one album in two parts....

reply

yeah i'll go with that.

Actually, how about: -
OK Computer - Radiohead

i would probably put my bloody valentine's loveless at the top of my list.

it's one of the few post 70s guitar records that sounds new & innovative to me. and it's a great listen from start to finish.

a few others that have to be in the mix for me:

lucinda williams - car wheels on a gravel road
bob dylan - time out of mind
tortoise - millions now living will never die
yo la tengo - painful
belle and sebastian - if you're feeling sinister

Oh probably Metallica's Black album. That's what really obliterated the barrier between rock and metal and ushered in a whole new era of Hot Topic culture.

Marillion: Brave (1994).
