Why do people go see a movie they know will offend them just to be offended and walk out?

Eg: serial killer movie has scenes of murder and they get offended it has murders in it...

reply

Who does that lol

reply

Some audience reviews you read giving it it 1 out of 10 because the scenes offended them and say they walked out for example

reply

Maybe they lied? People lie for lots of things... No need to take those kinds of reviews seriously.

reply

Or news reports that say : audiences walked out of “movie” due to being offended and stuff like that

reply

Never seen news reports like that. Got links?

I've just read one funnily enough ..

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-7122887/Viewers-walk-Nightingale-premiere-rape-scenes.html

The daily mail is full of shit though, they probly sent their own reporters in to be "outraged"

reply

They quoted the 'walked out.' And the rest of the article actually show positive tone to the movie. Like how it's an important movie and beautiful but brutal. And how the apparently female director has her big photo placed right in the center of the page. And the struggles she had to endure to make the movie, etc.

Probably some kind of marketing stunt. Rape scenes and excessive violence are not even shocking anymore. We all know it's play pretend. It's a movie. The article is promoting the movie, I guess.

Yeah it looks like a lovely film.
I fail to see how some brutally violent rape revenge fantasy could be "important" or "beautiful" .
The director seems to be under the illusion she has created a work of art rather than yet another obvious low brow excuse to put rape, gore and violence on the screen for the sick fucks that are entertained by that sort of thing.

reply

Well, it was screened at Sundance (per the article) so it's art I suppose.

reply

Yes I also saw this article and it was the reason I posted this and it reminded me about the reaction for the house that jack built

reply

I'm outraged at reading this thread, even though I knew the content by the title. I'm off to write a strongly worded letter.

reply

Ha ha :p

reply

Because they want to have a reason to be pissed, they love being the victim.

reply

Yes exactly just a reason to ruin somebody’s hard film making work, there are simmiler “outraged” audience members that saw the house that jack built knowing it was about a serial killer and still said they walked out,I guess a serial killer movie was not sugar coated enough
