Apple's new monitor - $4,999. Stand for Apple's new monitor - $999.

Yes, the stand itself is $999.

At least it's not $1,000. That would just be too much.

reply

Bloody hell that's a bit steep.

reply

Cute.

reply

Apple have been having a total laugh at the world for many years now. And people are foolish enough to fall for it.

reply

Maybe this will wake up some folks. This is so obnoxious that I wouldn't pay for it even if I was super wealthy.

reply

Super wealthy people pay $7,000 just for a plastic water bottle to be installed in their million dollars McLaren Senna. A $999 for a machined aluminum stand is not outrageous at all.

reply

Because Apple can't compete on tech anymore. If they sell the monitor for $999 anf the stand $29 there would be no news. There would be no thread like this discussing their products.

A $999 stand is the cheapest way to make news and put Apple in the spotlight again. They may not be great engineers, but surely are geniuses at advertising!

reply

So you're telling me that I've been secretly manipulated into doing their bidding? 😳

reply

Well, they are geniuses. There is no shame at being outsmarted by geniuses. They even have bars specifically made for geniuses.

reply

I've been to a genius bar before and can confirm every last one of them there are in fact geniuses. It's a marvel that Apple can round up so many of them.

reply

As long as the pay is good, working condition is good and there's chance that you might be the next Steve Jobs, it's relatively easy to gather so many geniuses.

Of course they can pay them good money cause they sell their products at higher (uh, I mean exorbitant) prices. But that's the genius in this all, isn't it?

reply

That's nuts.

reply

It might be cheaper to hire someone to hold the monitor.

reply

Damn, I was going to suggest this (beat me to it).

reply

πŸ˜„

It'd have to be someone with extremely dextrous hands and arms, because apparently having your monitor spin freely like a pinwheel is not only new and innovative, it's very important.

reply

My first question is why. Why does anyone need a pinwheel monitor??

reply

Well obviously because then they can charge $1000 for it! πŸ˜„

Excuse me, I mean $999.

reply

It’s very useful for commercial graphic designers and for making corporate presentations, where portrait mode is often used. This is not consumer hardware. This is for pros who make money with it.

reply

There are plenty of monitor stands that allow for portrait or landscape positions for that reason. There's no good reason for one to freely spin like a pinwheel, except they think it justifies a $1000 price tag.

reply

Maybe it doesn't really spin freely? Maybe it's just an ad gimmick to say it's easy to turn?? I won't be looking for an answer though, since Apple is not on my radar.

reply

Who knows. I wouldn't be surprised if it did, because it'd be too stupid of them to ask that high a price and not deliver on something so simple. Shockingly, I won't be getting one of these either πŸ˜„

reply

Or buy a 3D printer and make one.

reply

the price will come down. wait.

reply

I'll have three please

reply

That's the spirit!

reply

Absurd!
I'm an Apple fan and this is indefensible

reply

Being an Apple fan is indefensible.

reply

That's what they tell me😒

reply

They make an excellent product. My 2014 MacBook has been running almost constantly for over 5 years now without any problems.

reply

Agreed. My Mac Mini is from 2011, and likewise.

I've been a fan of Macs for many years, but this is absurd.

reply

My Asus laptop is from 2012. And my hp laptop is from 2009. Only the batteries have been replaced. Everything else is fine. Computers are like that, not just Apple products.

reply

Do you run them almost continually? If you do, great, but the majority of people I know who have PCs have to replace them much more often than Macs, and have more problems with them.

What won me over to Macs/Apple is when I had a monitor on which one of the guns had gone south. (Yes, it was that long ago.) It had been a gift, so I didn't have a receipt. I called late afternoon. By the next morning there was a new monitor on my doorstep, and they took the old one so I wasn't stuck with that. That's superb customer service.

And, in all of these years, I've only had to take any of them in to be fixed once. The few other problems I was able to fix myself.

reply

Of course. They are my workhorse laptops.

Thing is, your friend's random brand laptops are probably not even half the price of your typical Apple ones. Quality costs money. We can't expect cheap things have the same or better quality than the more expensive ones, can we?

When compared to comparable priced products, Apple computers are as well made as other brands. They have way better customer support and service though. So for people that value service I think Apple 'puters are not actually overpriced.
