They are heroes

Land on the shore,
they are not heroes of romantic lore,
a soldier's duty, on the tour;

They see the smile on the peoples faces as they leave,
the battlefield is their company, death a common companion,
Protect their fellow who guards their rear, there is no weight that cannot be bared;

Do they fight for a flag? Do they fight for their country? Do they fight for their family?
They fight for who we are, what we represent: freedom.
We depend on them. May their sacrifice never be in vain. Let freedom ring.
