Everything is viable until it's not viable

The wife of a friend works for a fairly well known college in NYS. While not in admissions she has heard applications are down for a number of fields but also has heard that enrollment in trade schools are up. Where I am going with this is for years we have heard that certain jobs, industries, and fields were considered invulnerable to a weak economy. Used to be that union jobs and government jobs were safe havens. Then we heard that white color jobs and technical fields were the safe havens. Now we hear that computers and artificial intelligence will dominate the research and technical fields in the next couple of decades. This will spill over into fields such as medicine where machines will research, perform surgery, and diagnose replacing people in similar roles. I think of my niece's and nephews having children currently and wonder what the world will be like when they need careers.

Everything IS until it is no longer.

Everything IS.

The only thing that never changes is change itself. There is always change. Successful people adapt to the changes.
You might want to read the very short book, "Who Moved My Cheese?" It spells out the three types of people,
and how they adapt (or fail to adapt) to change. Your niece and nephew's children will have to adapt like everyone else.

And BTW, we are in a very strong economy now, due mainly to Trump's Tax Cuts. Unemployment is at a 50 year low.

The economy will change as does everything else does. Unemployment does not tell the full story and this is something I have maintained regardless of who is in the White House. That aside I am looking for discussion as to what people see for the future. I see a need for fewer people in the general economy going forward but the US population keeps growing overall. I see more people getting left behind.

Not only is unemployment low, the stock market is near its all time high. Taking into account those two factors, I would say the economy is in great shape. I see great things for the future as long as the Democrats are not in control.

They are Socialists who are notoriously anti business and anti economy. They want a welfare state to keep as many people dependent on the government as possible. They want this because they want to CONTROL every aspect of our lives. They're arrogant elitists who think they're better and smarter than the rest of us.

and Canada is no longer considered a national security threat. Yaaaaaaaayyyy

When was Canada considered a national security threat? You are one of our very best allies.

Trump used it last year to impose tariffs on Canadian steel. He removed them last week.

reply

Oh okay then. I don't think he saw you as a security threat. He was just trying to protect American steel.

(whispers) But we are keeping a close eye on you.

I've never heard of any industry being invulnerable to economics. Some state employees here have been in a wage freeze for 10 years but somehow they have the money for 24/7 air and ground surveillance of low level drug dealers, but no overtime for officers; huge pay raises for political staffing (republican) fresh from college, money for 24/7 guards on racist statues, new equipment for officers, etc. Basically if the money goes to private companies there is no lack of it.
