Sleep?

I often hear reports how many of us don't get enough sleep. How about you all? Any trouble getting to sleep and getting enough hours? Also, beds are a big deal. You can get really expensive beds that are supposed to help you and your partner get rest and not disagree about the temp, snoring, etc. What are your experiences regarding sleep?

reply

We bought the Sleepnumber Bed
It was nearly $7,000, no lie...certainly not cheap!

I have no trouble sleeping though
The foot part and head part goes up and down by remote control, you can make the mattress firmer or softer depending on your mood...I love this Sleepnumber bed!
And no, I don't work for themπŸ˜‰

reply

Sounds like the kind of bed I need, The price is a bit steep but I'd definitely consider something like that.

reply

Worth every penny
You can't help but fall asleep in it

reply

Sounds good, Especially the option to change the firmness of the mattress.

reply

The remotes are fragile for the firmness, feet up etc...
My only gripe with Sleepnumber bed is the delicacy of their shabby remotes...we have dropped both of them and they are done for:/

But their is a phone AppπŸ‘

reply

I was just about to say before I read it, "There must be an app" πŸ˜†

reply

There seems to be an app for everything now lol

Unless I've had lots of booze I rarely get an uninterrupted nights sleep. I tried a memory foam mattress for a while but it made me feel far too hot so I went back to the traditional springs one.

reply

We had the memory foam mattress in the apartment we first lived in
It did get muggy and hot...I was happy to drag that annoying mattress to the city dump

reply

I know what you mean, It was comfortable enough though. Just the heat thing. Waste of money πŸ‘Ž

reply

I've been having trouble with getting hot at night. I fall asleep just fine, but when I wake up around 3:00 I have to stick a leg out and take the blanket off my shoulders. I should start using a sheet instead but I haven't bothered ... yet. I wish I would turn the thermostat down to about 67 but I forget. Last night it was 70 and I was hot this morning.

i usually sleep quite nicely. a few times a year, i'll have a sleepless night, or a patch where i'll struggle to sleep adequately - usually in the summer, & mainly attributable to the miserable heat. but overall, sleep has never been an issue with me.

i've never owned a bed. i sleep quite comfortably on a cheap air mattress, and it's worked out nicely for me so far.

from the little research i've done, there seems to be little evidence that really expensive mattresses do much to improve either your sleep or back/neck comfort. i have heard from various sources that getting a new mattress every few years & regularly flipping them can improve your sleep, though.

reply

I've had a lot of mattresses, I even had a girlfriend with one of those ridiculous water beds, and I promise you that this crazy-ass expensive Sleepnumber bed is worth every penny

It's like sleeping on a cozy cloud

reply

you do make it sound tempting.
but i can't bring myself to spend $7k on anything, lol.

reply

I wouldn't have either but my wife went behind my back and ordered it...I'm a cheap ass and would be happy enough on the floor lol

These Ladies can really drive you mad, especially because they are very often right!

Oh sleepnumber bed, how I love you!

reply

I sleep on a couch. About my only concern is if I managed to meet a woman who was willing to spend the night, I'd have to figure something out. I'm sure I would be able to improvise, but I don't know what sort of impression this would leave. My body feels fine. I have a female friend who would always complain or at least comment on the quality of her bed or pillow or futon and whatever.

reply

I slept on an air mattress when I first moved in my flat for about a year as I couldn't afford a bed. When I did get a bed my back killed me for weeks! The air bed is like memory foam without the heat. It gives you complete body alignment. Total nightmare finding a puncture though 😾

reply

i completely agree!
i usually don't even bother trying to find leaks. i just go out and buy a new one - though i bought a fairly pricey model about 8 months ago & it's held up perfectly so far.

Sweet dream 😽

These supposed reports will mention productivity and students losing sleep for having too much homework, like it's a national crisis. I seem to get enough sleep, and I rarely take naps. However, I used to have a grueling job, so if I wanted to have a date in the evening, I'd try to sneak in a 20 min rest and maybe a shower before going out.

It's bad enough for non-medical students, but it's considered normal for interns to go for long stretches with little or to sleep. Terrible practice, awful that it's become the norm. Who wants a sleep-deprived person operating on you or performing any other kind of medical procedure?!

I'm married and my husband will toss and turn all night and snore too. I will sometimes sleep in the upstairs bedroom because he will keep me awake at night. Once i'm in the upstairs bedroom, I sleep better.

reply

Yeah, I know not every coupling is perfect for sleeping. My last girlfriend I remember lying next to her not wanting to even breathe so I wouldn't bother her. Most women I've slept with I don't recall having any issues, but I was a lot younger. The afore mentioned girlfriend's parents slept in separate rooms, and my parents had the old fashioned separate beds. My Dad snored like a banshee, but he didn't know it. My current male roommate snores next to his wife a lot. At least I think it's him.

Never a truer word spoken for me.

I had a lifetime of being a night owl, and having trouble getting to sleep. Little did I know it was because I'd spend before-sleep time worrying about one thing or another. Duh! That's not conducive to falling asleep.

Now I have no problems getting to sleep. In fact too often I'll lie down to watch a movie or show, end up falling asleep for hours, and wake up in the middle of the night. Then I have trouble getting back to sleep. I don't like these two-part nights of sleep.
