Things you love that most people "hate"

I LOOOOOVE fractions. They are elegant and useful and perfect.

I love drinking straight pickle juice and swigging all kinds of vinegar (especially a nicely aged balsamic)... eat spoonfuls of miracle whip, eat spoonfuls of yellow mustard which is actually good for your muscles like after working out.

Asparagus is amazing its just easy to overcook.

I replace as much driving as I can with walking or the buses, because I prefer driving for pleasure. Dont want to ruin that.

I love it when a government gets hamstrung on infighting and tug-of-war... the closer it gets to ineffective, the better. Thats one thing I love about Democracy, it slows down and sometimes hobbles the government, guaranteed. But everyone else is an Anarchist too, no matter what their view. Thats just math.

I like the brine from sauerkraut. A small company in town actually sells it as a probiotic drink. Just a shot will do.

reply

Ha! You beat me to it.. . .. .asparagus!

reply

Most people hate asparagus?

reply

"Hate" not hate, it's a fine line.

Bats.

i really loved calculus in high school, and math class in general. i don't mean that to sound like one of those annoying humble brags, like i'm modestly saying i'm a math prodigy. far from it. i'm very average. i wish i was gifted in math - i would have loved to have had a career as an academic or a statistician or an actuary, but i just don't have that level of intellect or discipline. but i truly enjoyed those classes. statistics too. and economics. i thought those were by far the most interesting classes i ever took. i actually think stats & econ classes should be standard - both are fundamental in developing a proper bs detector.

while i recognize his enormous flaws, i think richard nixon was one of the most qualified presidents of the u.s., & his first term, though i don't agree with all he did, was one of the most successful terms of any american president in history.

i think ants are the most fascinating creatures on the planet. everything about them fascinate me...their reproduction, their societies. i love reading books about them, like to keep little farms in the summer.

reply

I like your spread on classes there. Mine would be all math, love it exponentially more the higher and compoundingly more complex it gets.

So Maths, physics, accounting, business law, and oddly enough Russian History. That was a tester class and some top students were offered to try it out before it hit the regular class schedule.

I have to self toot and say I'm way way up there in math and physics compared to my relatively simple high school and college days.

Im actually writing a math theory paper right now, offering fixes to proven errors in modern math structure, one of which is a big deal.

Then a physics paper will be coming, but theres a paper between them thats actually more of a psychology paper and a mental discipline that can be a learning method, and more.

I love ants too. One summer we got a heap of rain one day and our outside furniture was covered in thousands of them. My spouse was about to go and get the spray but I told him to leave them alone and they'll be gone in a couple of hours. Just let them do their thing. Of course I was right.

I agree with the above, don't be afraid to bail. I was basically planning to put up with as much lf it as I could take... but right away it was hilarious and definitely my type of not politically correct humor.

Not all the sketches are great, but most are.

Conan the Barbarian (82)

reply

I cannot imagine anyone hating this film!

reply

Oh man, I love it, but even my oldest and closest friends think I'm a loon

'What is best in life Shogun?'

'To play the Conan dvd, to see it on your reasonably large screen and to hear the lamentations of the haters'

reply

maybe this is just the time and place that i grew up, but the guys i went to school with all became conan obsessives in the two to three years before that movie came out - we read the comics, read the novels & short stories - and they all loved it. it was an event film for us.

i still like revisiting it every few years. it's a bit too long, drags a little in some sections maybe, but it's got some great moments.

now if you had said conan the destroyer, then i'd agree that everyone seems to hate that one. i've never sat through the entire thing, even though i own the dvd.

reply

I collected the comics when I was a kid and I had 1-200 something. I sold them when I was in my early 20’s like a dumb ass!

reply

that's a shame. you'd get a nice price for a complete collection like that now, i bet.

i still most of my comic collection, & i'm probably going to sell them this coming summer.

reply

I still have my Conan comics and novels...I'm not certain many are worth very much, I have about 200 between the various series...I'm not selling but the local comic shop would probably only offer a few hundred dollars:/
Comic values have really crashed

reply

really? i didn't know that. if that's the case, i'll just hold onto them. i don't need the cash. i just figured it was time to let go of them.

i actually have a pretty decent collection - not a lot of conan, but tons of prime claremont x-men, some fun rarities.

i'm sure there's an easy way to look into this - but do you know what the best online resources are for determining current market values for comics?

reply

All the comic value websites disagree on values but mostly the older ones (40s-50s) seem valuable

I have a good sized collection too, bagged, acid free back boarded and boxed...the problem is the worth fell out of much of the market when the older ones became valuable and the comic companies started to produce hundreds of thousands of copies for each new issue

Much like the Vinyl album market it turned out we all got into the trade at the same time and saved everything:/
Don't ask me about my vinyl albums lol...it would cost me less time and money to have them hauled to the dump if I wished to EBay them

I have not opened the boxes in awhile but I likely have about 2000 comics from the 60s-80s...I doubt I could get $800 for the lot at a shop and I'd rather keep them in that case

I'm giving my comics and records to my kids...

reply

I thought the pacing was excellent but hell, that's the least of the criticisms I've read for Conan (82)

Noted film critic Roger Ebert was uncomfortable with the scene where a Nordic superman slays an evil wizard and death cult leader who happened to be a black guy, the news media blasted the violent content and even sit-coms and comedians were using this amazing picture for laughs about gore in pop culture

I loved Ebert but he really lost the thread on this one...A humble village boy sees his community savaged, gets enslaved and becomes the greatest Gladiator of all time, so much so that his owner fears him and sets him loose...
Hulking former slave boy recruits an awesome best bro and a super hot lady partner to beat the gems and the daylights out of the whole world

What follows is lots of magic, an awesome romance, a fine heist movie and high adventure!

Best damn movie ever 10/10

reply

your passion has got me excited to see it again.
it's too late in the evening for me to start it now, but i am definitely going to watch it tomorrow.

reply

Please do so damo...this pic deserves way more attention
