Did any IMDB-lite forums work?

Seems like they all became overrun with political bots, did any survive to become actual movie forums or is it all reddit now?
e; serious question, you can PM a serious answer.

reply

IMO, MovieChat works the best of all of them. I do dislike that politics has leaked over into virtually *everything* these days, movies and TV included, but that's what's happened.

reply

Damn!
You laid down the truth Lady

reply

👍😊

reply

MovieChat actually has a Movie-only general discussion board and a TV Show-only general discussion board. Too bad they're not promoted enough. Jim should've put those links up and center on the homepage.

reply

One of yours?
https://moviechat.org/user/SeditiousFeet

reply

Are you asking if I'm SeditiousFeet?? If so, not hardly 😂

That was DeliciousFeet, if you knew him. If not, he was a former member.

reply

Was? He/she sent me a rambling message about the same time you replied, that's why I asked. Thought it might be your sock.

reply

Yep, was. He's been banned, for obvious reasons. He sent who knows how many of those PMs out. I got one too. There were several threads about it here yesterday, or whenever it was he sent them out.

reply

P.S. I have no socks. Not here, not on IMDb, not anywhere.

reply

I have socks. 🧦I just wish the washer would quit eating them!😡 I have all kinds, lengths, colors, boot socks(for ankle boots 🥾 & higher boots 👢) tennis shoe socks, no show liner socks, etc., etc.🙇‍♀️

Just a little bit of levity folks....which we all need at times. These past few days has been one of those times. I despise slithering snakes whose sole/soul purpose is to cause trouble!🤬

reply

Washers and dryers are notorious for their ravenous appetite for socks. The mystery is why they only eat one out of a pair 🤔

reply

You too?😱 Most assuredly a mystery. Speaking of internet sock names, I have a different screen ID on Reddit, but never posted. Also a different one on Facebook, but never posted. I despise Facebook! Hmm? I think I need a sock name here on MC. This is the only board I post on.....post-IMDB.

reply

Did you join Reddit back during the Making A Murderer days, or for something else?

I never could cotton to Reddit. Don't like the format. I dislike Facebook too. So much that I've never had an account there.

It's the only post-IMDb board I post on too. I tried a couple others, just lurking, before I found MC and made it home.

The washer/dryer/sock mystery will never be solved! It's one of the Great Mysteries of the Universe 😬

reply

I joined Reddit after IMDB’s discussion boards folded. I did so to locate posters from IMDB. I did not like the format either. It was silly voting comments up or down. To me it is FilmBoards light! I would lurk, but I became so disgusted with the arguing and the foul language I closed my account. I joined Facebook for the same reason. Also the company I worked for has a link. I never posted.

Facebook and Google are too intrusive. I’ve attempted to rid myself of all things Google. Trouble is my phone is an Android. You would think I would buy an iPhone since Apple has made a fortune off me buying at least 8 iPads through the years, since 2009. (for me and my husband)

Another great mystery...how does so much debris get under throw rugs and under large room size rugs?

reply

Oh, I thought maybe you'd gone there after ... uh, what was her name? Remember your friend on the MAM board? Anyway, she went over there.

Yes, all the up/down voting, having to click to another page to follow a thread, the whole thing is a design mess as far as I'm concerned. I lurked a bit there at one point, but, meh. Don't all the different subs have different rules or something? Meaning, one might be very tame, with rules against flaming and cussing, while another is no holds barred?

I agree both Facebook and Google are far too intrusive. It's annoying many sites want you to sign up with either account. Thank god MC doesn't.

😳 That's a lot of iPads.

"Another great mystery...how does so much debris get under throw rugs and under large room size rugs?"

Good question 😄

reply

I searched for both of you. I honestly cannot recall her ID on IMDB. But, I know her ID on Reddit. I had sent her the info about IMDB shutting and gave her my email address. We became pen/cyber pals. We emailed for quite awhile then I got involved with MC. We just wrote about life in general. Also some about MAM. But that was in the beginning. Later it was chit chat about our daily lives. In fact I owe her an email.

You know, I have trouble following this format. OMGosh it’s 2:30! I have to try to get some shut eye. “See” ya tomorrow.

reply

Aha, I found her in a very old thread on the MAM board! Her name was Mme3924-1, but we all just called her Mme :)

Very cool that you two became email pals. Tell her hi from me when you write her.

I'm hours behind you, but have a good night's sleep 💤

reply

Cat,
“😳 That's a lot of iPads.” You’re correct! Too many! This one is an iPad 10.5 Pro. I probably would still be using the prior one if it hadn’t went haywire. Out of all we owned, that one is the only one which failed. Of course it failed one month after the warranty expired. Odd failure. The colors went crazy and it looked like colorful negatives on top of another one.

I called Apple knowing the answer before calling asking about the repair fee. Sure enough the fee begins with $300 out of the starting gate! I decided to use $300 toward a new one. My husband has the same model as the failed one and its doing fine.

Another reason we purchased so many was due to them becoming outdated. So many apps would not work on older ones. 🤬 A lot of changes occur in electronics during a 10 year period.

reply

"The colors went crazy and it looked like colorful negatives on top of another one."

I think I remember when that was happening.

"Sure enough the fee begins with $300 out of the starting gate! I decided to use $300 toward a new one."

Yep. Manufacturers figure 9 times out of 10 that's what we'll do.

I've only had one, an iPad mini. It's old now. Had it for 5 years, and it was 2nd hand (but newish) when I got it. I don't much care about getting new apps, and this early obsolescence with tech stuff, that's very expensive to begin with, is something I support as little as possible 😬

reply

I’m constantly using my iPad...it’s joined to my hip! I use it for streaming movies, tv shows, etc. hence the need for up to date apps. I can screen cast to my tv. I do my banking, credit cards, just everything one would use a computer for. I purchased an after market keyboard with back light so now I have a mini computer.

Brother printer app so I can print directly from the iPad, DocuSign app which has let me sign documents, and so many more apps which are needed for everyday life.

reply

I use mine for streaming movies too, but not for the other stuff. I still prefer my computer for that. Big screen, good keyboard! 👍

I bought one of those aftermarket iPad holder/backlit keyboard combos too, so it's like having a mini laptop. But the keys are still very small so it's not nearly as comfortable for me as a full size keyboard.

reply

This one is a good sized keyboard. Remember it’s attached to a 10.5 Pro.

I got a lightening deal on it...$50.00

PM to follow

reply

Yeah, mine's a mini, so no keyboard's going to be anywhere close to a full size one for it. I love my keyboard!

reply

I have a sock! I have a sock!🧦 Guess who? 🤷‍♀️

reply

Shogie, doin' it for laughs?? MooseIndian?? Oh wait, you must be Ksp! 😄

(It was the emojis that are squares that tipped me off :D)

reply

Darn it! I was hoping to be a question mark....”now who could that be?” You mean you didn’t catch on with the screen ID...SockLoser? I just sorta felt short changed (or short a sock)! All them others have a multitude of socks! It didn’t seem fair to me. :-(

Frankly I don’t see how they have so many and how to keep them straight! I went through a lot to create this one! I had to resort to using my husband’s email address to confirm. I then deleted everything from his iPad while he was away. Signing in...signing out....signing in...signing out It ain’t worth it! As I’ve said “I is what I is” nothing but kspkap....I’m not very creative.

reply

Ha ha, nope SockLoser could have been several people having some fun :)

I don't know how people do it either, or why. Way too much work. I like keeping my life as simple as possible, whenever possible ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

reply

Me neither but then everyone says that, but I'm too lazy to keep multiple accounts, the internet is not that important.

reply

Oh h3ll no, there are people who brag about how many socks they have or have had.

Same for me, it sounds like way too much work, and for what?

reply

it was were getting deal with it

reply

In English?

_____Feet needs socks... (that's like, real deep, man)

It seems politics, especially SJW politics is in everything now. I tried using Previously TV a few months ago and was told that political comments weren't allowed. I pointed out that is difficult given the amount of agendas in TV shows now and also pointed out that there was a lot of SJW comments on the board but as per usual the playing field is not a level one.

Also tried IMDB2 but it is over run by trolls in general and almost no one talks about movies and tv shows. Poorly moderated as well.

reply

I wasn't kidding about bots, they are cheap, sophisticated, and small forums have little to no defense against them. A majority of the political discussion may be bots, then real people get into it and become polarized.

reply

Yeah I was the moderator of a small forums years back and we would have hundreds of bots signing up. They would even fill out their profiles etc.

It just annoys me as this and other boards like this are supposed to be about movie and tv chat, yet so many threads and posts are political.

reply

This is the General Discussion board....anything and everything. There are boards for movies and tv. I agree with you though regarding political threads. There are political boards where posters can argue politics to their heart’s content.

reply

That's fair enough but at least on here there is chat about movies and TV. On IMDB2 it seemed more like a political debate forum with occasional posts about film and TV!

I don't even mind political discussion per se but for the past few years it just becomes a slanging match very quickly.

reply

I and so many of the long time posters attempt to stay away from politics. If debating someone who has political leanings at odds with you, the collective, it’s a no win situation. You may as well be debating with the wall! Minds are not going to be changed. You can end up with hard feelings toward an unknown entity using a keyboard! Not worth it!

Quite awhile ago I was in an off and on political discussion with an ex-poster. We were complete polar opposites. But we respected each other. When the topic became too heated I would back off declaring to him “Let’s agree to disagree for now.” I then dropped the subject. We parted not as enemies, but as two posters who could discuss other topics without enmity.

reply

Same story. I'm currently a mod on a forum that went private because nothing would keep out the bots. The owner got sick of it, deleted inactive accounts and closed membership.

reply

Controlling who you let in and having some kind of screening test isn't a bad way to go. Too many forums get ruined by too many trolls or just poor management/moderation.
