What’s the longest you’ve ever gone without sleep?

72 hours - when I first started my business 20 years ago, I wanted to see how long I could work (sat at a computer) without sleep. Towards the end I was hallucinating giant spiders in the corners of the room, I could hear humming birds and the synapses sparking in my brain were producing bright flashes of lights in my eyes.

EDIT - I do not recommend that anyone should try this.

about the same, and few times. it helps to be in an environment where you cant see day turning into night -- like in an editing bay or under fluorescent lights in an office area where there are no visible windows.

On my trip to Australia... I went a week with a total of about 15 hours of sleep.

Consecutively? Without a minute? 48 hours. A few times. If I couldn't sleep at night, after a while I'd just get up, put my contacts in, and get on with the day. I'd also refuse to take a nap, or sleep early, so it wouldn't screw up my schedule.

48 hours. I dislike that surreal, bordering on hallucinating feeling that goes with sleep deprivation.

Not surprised you experienced actual hallucinations after 72.

reply

I would say about 22 hours.

2 days, bordering on 3. It was pretty bad. I got the bright flashes and bug paranoia as well. It's a very strange and unwanted experience, but it wasn't exactly a choice.

A little bit under 2 days.
