What shows would you bring back?

Some of mine -

Lie To Me
Farscape
Battlestar Galactica
Fringe
The Wire
Twin Peaks (again)
Freaks And Geeks
Jericho

reply

The Banana Splits.

reply

That show was crazy awesome.

reply

I know, I think it formed the basis of my early education, which explains a lot!

reply

do I get to rewrite their conclusions?

reply

Mirror Mirror.

reply

Invasion 2005

reply

I loved that show, the one with William Fichtner, right? It didn't even conclude it just disappeared.

reply

just one season. such a shame.

reply

That one was my first thought too..I loved it..A great show..
I was so disappointed it ended too soon.
It was intended for 5 seasons..

reply

None of them.

Everytime they bring a long off-air show back it turns out shit.

Times change. I love watching old episodes of Top of the Pops, but the show wouldn't work these days now that most music is downloaded.

reply

Stop being a party pooper. This is meant to be fun. No need to be all dark & gritty.

reply

Okay, I'd bring back The Day Today. It's more relevant than ever these days.

reply

Good shout.

reply

I actually agree with you. I did watch the new Dallas, which was entertaining enough, but didn't even come close to the original show.

reply

I heard they brought back Dynasty with Nicollette Sheridan in the 'Alexis Carrington' role. I like that casting, but I haven't seen the show so I have no idea if it's any good.

But I guess the difference there is that it's a reboot (with an all-new cast) rather than a revival.

reply

What I liked about the new Dallas is that they brought back the old characters. I have no interest in a reboot of Dynasty. What I've heard about it doesn't sound good.

reply

Whicker's World
Spaced
Saxondale

reply

Spaced is awesome!

reply

It's great, Needs a re-watch soon 👍

reply

Absolutely! I’ve not watched it since it’s original run. Apparently Simon Pegg has said that all his future work was inspired by this series.

reply

It's been ages for me too, Yep you can see the inspiration in the Shaun of the Deads and Hot Fuzzes etc 👌

reply

Did you ever watch Black Books, which was in a similar vein?

reply

I've seen a few minutes here and there, I like Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey so I'll definitely give them a proper go sometime.

reply

It’s very dark, what about The League Of Gentleman (pure genius).

reply

League of Gentleman is a classic, That's another that I've not seen in years. Royston Vasey needs a revisit 👌

reply

They did a trio of Christmas specials a couple of years back.

reply

I think I seen those ones. Must have been 1999/00 ish.

reply

I would have loved another season of My So Called Life, but it's too late to be brought back now.

reply

Find out what the characters are doing now, assuming they didn't all kill themselves or die from a drugs overdose.

reply

It wasn't a show about adults though, it was a show about trying to figure out who you are as a teenager. Sure it would be nice to have a catch up, but I really don't think that it would have any of the magic that it had. It really was a show of it's time.

reply

Lol!

reply

The 2 main characters were Claire Danes and Jared Leto so I think they’re doing just fine. Watch how you talk about Jordan Catalano! Kidding. Kinda.
I agree with sslssg, this show was magic, but couldn’t (or shouldn’t) be brought back.

reply

I recall liking the show, but that's probably because I was the right age when it was first broadcast (i.e. mid-teens), but I also recall most of the characters, except the dopey parents, being a-holes of one kind or another.

reply

You say assholes, I say extremely realistic. If anyone was considered assholes in this show, it would be the parents.

reply

What did the protagonist's parents do wrong?

The kids, who were all around my age or slightly older, were self-absorbed, flaky, rebellious for the sake of being rebellious, and self-pitying, as far as I can recall.

reply

You don’t seem to recall much. It was either ep. 1 or 2 that the main character busted her dad cheating on her mom. The main characters mom was a somewhat self absorbed moron. Another character was physically abused by his dad, another was kicked out of his home for being gay, another’s mom was an addict. All of these issues that you speak so loudly about on here. You can’t tolerate intolerance, right?
I don’t know what you were doing in highschool, but I was doing exactly what the characters in this show were doing, as were many other teenagers. We were going to shows, experimenting with drugs, having communication problems with our parents, having crushes on the bad boys at school, and feeling misunderstood and unheard by our parents.
You talk too much about things you know nothing about. Everything you’ve said on here, all your self-righteous nonsense was just negated by your last sentence to me. You are a hypocrite sir.

reply

What was I doing in high school?

I wasn't in high school. I was kicked out at 14, thanks to bullying (bullying against me, not my bullying of others). Maybe that's why these relatively privileged kids, who were getting away with all the shit I wasn't able to (suffice to say, I wasn't experimenting with drugs or having crushes on the bad kids, and forget being misunderstood by my parents because being misunderstood by other kids was bad enough), bugged me so.

At that age we blame everything on grown-ups, and yes, as the ones with the power they should hold the most responsibility, but as I recall my fellow kids weren't complete angels either. In fact, they were cruel, abusive even. It wasn't a forty-year-old man that tried to rape me when I was an eleven-year-old boy; it was another, slightly older, high school kid.

reply

Poor you malkovich. Jesus how can you stand being such a victim?! Ya know what, I got bullied too kid, but instead of dropping out, I learned to fight and beat the shit out of those bitches. Lol you were misunderstood by the other school children? Who fucking wasn’t?
No one’s blaming anything on parents either. You asked me what the parents did wrong in the show that you “recalled liking” a couple posts ago. I was just refreshing your memory.
If you’re in any way suggesting I was privileged because I did drugs and went to shows, you’re wrong there too. I dropped out at 15, not so I could be coddled by my parents, but so I could get a job and help my mom pay bills. I’m not saying this for sympathy, I just can’t even stand to listen to you cry about how you couldn’t go to school because you were bullied. Man up brah.

reply

You misunderstood me. I didn't drop out of school. I loved school. I loved learning. I loved being top of the class. I loved getting 'highest performing student' merit badges every term. I loved being involved in all the extra-curricular activities.

No, I didn't drop out of school. I was made to leave because the school couldn't protect me from the bullying, and because I had a disability that it wasn't prepared to support.

Also, I never said you were privileged. I was saying that those kids (evidently you're not one of them if you had to drop out of school at 15 in order to pay your family's household bills) who got to stay in school, despite all their tomfoolery, are the privileged ones, like the ones in this show.

reply

The show that you recalled liking? What’s priveledged about being a homeless teen because your parents can’t except you for being gay? They addressed bullying, poverty, intolerance, all the things you supposedly stand for. Look dude, I get it. School is tough, life is tough. But if you’re as old as you say you are, then it’s time to quit feeling sorry for yourself. I haven’t been dealt the greatest cards either, but grab your balls and stand up to it. I’m proud as fuck to still be standing.

reply

Hey, I liked the show, and the I felt bad for the show's token gay character. Out of everyone in the show, he was the one who did have it genuinely bad.

And at least the kids weren't as insufferable as Dawson as his chums. Part of what I liked about this particular show is that the kids were portrayed realistically, warts and all.

Also, I'm sorry you think I'm old. :(

reply

I am sorry to hear this.

reply

Thank you.

reply

I’d say count your blessings that he just tried. You people are ignorant as fuck, I’m out.

reply

??

reply

I’d say count your blessings that he just tried.
I do.

But I don't understand the second part of your post.

If you're implying that something worse has happened to you, I am truly sorry. Still, no-one should be subjected to an attempted rape (I don't think it's ignorant to suggest otherwise), let alone an actual one.

reply

Terrible that this happened to you Malko, it's really awful that this stuff goes on

Glad you got away as many victims do not

reply

True ShogunofYonkers, but just because a 'successful' rape is worse, it doesn't mean that we should be relaxed about an attempted rape.

The kid who tried to do this to me, forced himself on me and humiliated me for several minutes before he was interrupted and, thankfully, backed out.

reply

Oh I'm not 'relaxed' about any sexual crimes nor attempted ones Malko, just relieved that you are OK and things were not worse for you

Did you report this to adults?

reply

Firstly, I was only a naïve eleven-year-old kid. I had no real concept what rape was at the time. It's only in the subsequent years I realised 'Oh shit! That's what that kid was trying to do to me!'

Secondly, it was an adult that interrupted the assault, but she only saw it from afar, so I don't know what she made of it. I do know that she called him into her classroom, after she spoke to me to see if I was okay. But I was too distraught and confused to make a serious complaint. Plus, I left that school shortly afterwards because my dad lost his job and we had to move to a new town, so I have no idea whatever happened to that boy.

reply

That boy may well be i jail now

I hope they lost the key

reply

May I ask - are you male or female ?? You don't have to answer if you don't want to.

reply

I'm a dude.

Hope you're not judging me, but, suffice to say, sometimes guys get attacked too.

reply

No judging. I just didn't know.

reply

No problem.

I'd like to think that my gender doesn't matter, but you asked a question in good faith, and so I answered it in kind.

reply

Freaks and Geeks (Keeping it pretty much the same)
Family Ties (Maybe Nick and Mallory's family?)
Facts of Life (Maybe make the school coed)
Three's Company (I'd have it set in the 70s so it could work)
Beverly Hills 90210 (just a few of the original cast, showing their kids as teens)
Brady Bunch (I'd think of something)

reply

As far as Freaks and Geeks goes, I would have loved to see what happened after Lindsay (Linda Cardellini) ditched going to the University of Michigan for the summer and jumped into the van with her friends ...
https://youtu.be/y5ZY5woMEqI

I thought that was a great way to end the first season of the show, as it got me to wanting to see more of what happened. Too bad that that was the end of the show,
I also loved that they included the Grateful Dead's 'Ripple' as the musical score in that scene.

As for Lindsay's little brother, it took me awhile to get used to seeing John Francis Daly play Dr. Sweets in 'Bones.'

reply

I would have loved a second season too. But since it had to end, I thought that was a good way to end it. I can just imagine the reaction of her parents, especially her father. I wonder at what point would she have called them to tell them what she had done.

From what I heard, JFD went through a growth spurt, it would have been interesting to see how they worked that in, since part of his trouble was being small. I can imagine (perhaps) Sam finding out he is good at some sport, then (sort of like his sister) drifting towards new friends and (more slowly than Lindsay did) ditching his old friends.

reply

Im in the, "shows shouldn´t be brought back" camp. As Malki said, they generally just suck when they revive old shows. X-files was a huge disappointment. I think part of the reason is that people somehow think, 10-20 years later, shows will just recapture the magic of when they were on air, which is just not realistic.
That said, I do wish Freaks and Geeks had had more than one season, but not sure how a revival would even work 20 years later, when the show is supposed to be about schoolkids.

reply

I don't like bringing back shows either, but it just seemed like a fun topic. I agree, when they bring back shows, it just never gives the same feel. Especially when they make drastic changes, and the only real association with the original show is the name.

For Freaks and Geeks (which I am sure would be ruined if they even did it) I would just start as a new show, new cast of teen characters. I like the time period of the original show though.

reply

I didn't think the X-Files revival was terrible, but it definitely didn't have that spark of the series at its peak.

The problem, I think, is that they had killed off or had done away with many of the interesting side characters who might have added some energy and opened up story possibilities. (Krycek, The Long Gunmen, Darren McGavin (died :( ), Roy Thinnes, Dogget, probably others...)

You know at the end of the night when the party is over, and it's just the last few guests lingering? The good times are over, but you're not quite ready to leave and step out into the cold night? It felt like that.

reply

I think people get too nostalgic, even I was guilty of it, and was excited to see it coming back but not that I´ve seen it, I can honestly say I wish it hadn´t of come back at all.
There were other problems too, the new characters they introduced were just plain terrible.
