Do you exercise daily?

I work out at a local gym every day . . .40 minutes on the treadmill and 10 minutes lifting light weights and stretching. Just trying to stay healthy.

reply

Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday - 2 mile run.
Monday, Wednesday, Friday - gym (1 hour) weights.
Saturday - recover.

reply

I spend about 2 hours lifting weights 6 days a week. Sometimes I play tennis but I don't think cardio is very good for you.

reply

Why don't you think its not good for you. My doctor says it is very good for your circulation.heart, etc.

reply

People who do a lot of cardio look worn out. Your doctor is probably fat.

reply

I think you are a troll.

I eat ice cream all day and have a six pack. You run forever on a treadmill and wonder why your waist is still expanding little by little.

There's this famous study where scientists trained and conditioned people to run marathons. Most saw zero change in body composition. Some even lost muscle and gained fat. The only thing cardio is good for is working up and appetite so you can get even fatter.

Do you understand that even hardcore swimming only burns about 600 calories per hour? You're probably burning like 200, and then you're hungry and have to eat twice as much. Do the math. Michael Phelps eats 12,000 calories per day. You need a metabolic advantage.

reply

You're right to say that without the proper diet cardio alone does relatively little in terms of weight-loss, but most of us who do cardio do so in conjunction with weights and other forms of exercise.

And look at most long-distance runners. They're very skinny.

reply

There's actually a concerted effort to encourage cardio and discourage weight lifting. Look at Moochelle Obama's Let's Move campaign. Look at the gyms in apartment buildings. Weight lifting is considered dangerous. But jogging didn't even exist when your parents were growing up. Now we try to make toddlers do it. Playgrounds don't even have real monkey bars anymore. Everyone buys these yoga mats and blocks, and all kinds of running gear. It's all based on phoney baloney science.

They do the same thing with diet, encouraging carbs and discouraging fat.

reply

I'm thin and eat healthy food, and I want to stay that way.

reply

Not much, but I do go for a daily walk. Good for both body and mind.

reply

I ride one of my bikes every day unless it rains all day. And I'm not talking about a mile or two. The most I ever rode in one day was 44 miles. Last year I rode 4,316 miles. That is an average of about 12 miles a day. Great exercise, fresh air and great scenery.

Beautiful scenery. I've always been drawn to the mountains. Was that a vacation or are you lucky enough to live in an area like that?

reply

Sorry to mislead you. I have never been there (Glacier National Park in Montana). I just picked that picture as an example. Would love to go biking and camping there.

I try to do some basic exercises every morning for like 10 minutes and I get "organic" exercise from walking/running and pickup sports.

reply

I have a similar daily routine. I do about 5 to 6 kilometres on the treadmill and then spend another half an hour or so on weights and stretches, and general exercise like sit-ups and the plank. I also purchased a kettlebell which I use at home on a daily basis, so even on those rare days where I have to miss the gym (i.e. if I'm ill or I've got a particularly busy schedule) I still manage to do some proper exercise.

4 times a week
