Boy gets Girl Movies...

A famous (or not so famous) movie where the Guy gets the Lady in the end...also, feel free to add Girl gets Boy titles...Or Guy gets Guy, whatever!

The Graduate (67)
Memorable final scenes because they both seem thrilled until they didn't...then they looked like 'WTH did we just do?!'

The Clock 1945

Thank you much, hownos. I will search for this one even though I’m sure I’ve seen it. I love the romantic ‘40’s movies. Also, the film noirs.

That WAS a pretty good movie
Had forgotten all about it
Fantastic cast
Douglas and Bening really worked together

reply

It was mentioned on today's Jeopardy.

Perfect game show
Alex Trebek is class

reply

I find it unbelievable how good he looks in spite of his stage 4 cancer.

reply

It's pretty amazing
The guy is a champ and best wishes to him
The various media comments of best wishes and warm regards from last week have stuck with me...the man is certainly loved and highly regarded

reply

One I’ve mentioned this week. “Sayonara”

Another worth watching: “Love Is a Many Splendid Thing”

And of course “A Summer Place”

I own all as I’m such an old romantic! I lose myself when watching these movies thinking of days gone by.😔😢

“Tis better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.”

“For all sad words of tongue and pen, the saddest are these, “It might have been.”

reply

Very nice, especially your last line

Your second to last line comes up in a Poison song, I wont Forget You off the Look What the Cat Dragged In album...
Some good music right there!

reply

The last line reminds me of these movies, which would be the antithesis of the topic:

Splendor in the Grass (1961)
Love Story (1970) I can still remember how sensationalized this was.
Sweet November (2001)

reply

I agree with your assessment of “Splendor in the Grass”. I also own this movie. Why? I don’t know because my heart broke further when I saw it at the Drive-In. It’s a good thing I didn’t see it in the theater because I sobbed uncontrollably. He had just left me. I chose Tennyson’s quote to be under my high school yearbook photo even though I’ve never agreed with it. Pain is the price we pay for love.

reply

The endings in all three are bittersweet.

reply

I didn’t care for Love Story maybe because I hated the ‘60’s and ‘70’s.
I don’t recall seeing the 2001 remake of Sweet November. I will check it out.

Another movie which was the antithesis of the topic was the 1961 remake of Back Street with Susan Hayward (academy award winner for “I Want To Live”) and John Gavin.
I went to the theater with my dear departed Mom to see it. She and I weren’t the only ones crying in the theater. Even though it was a tearful movie I’m grateful for the memory because I was with my Mom. I’ll be seeing her again before too long.

Oh, Shoggie, how did we veer off the rails again from your happy OP to sadness?😔

reply

Yeah...as I just replied to db...I’ve never agreed with it, so why do I keep remembering it?😢 But, thanks! I’m going to check out the lyrics of the Poison? song. Sounds crazy!

reply

Read the lyrics....sad. The quote was twisted...maybe to fit better for the tune,

reply

Mary Astor and Walter Huston in Dodsworth...love has got to stop somewhere short of suicide!

reply

New title to me, sounds...really crazy
