Movie genres you think are silly

Dance movie genre.. like Magic Mike, Step Up, etc. How can they be so popular? Lol.

reply

Dance movies can be great, if you like watching good dancers dance.

No, the genre I dont get is Mafia movies. Who wants to watch a bunch of stupid thugs be stupid thugs?

reply

I like a good Mafia movie and the crime genre in general

reply

I certainly like a good heist movie, but good heist movies are clever!

But by definition, mafia movies are lacking in cleverness and humor. Just not my thing.

reply

Fair enough👍

reply

By definition??? I think Goodfellas is a perfect example of a clever and humorous mafia movie. And who says all mafia movies try to be clever and humorous???

Interesting you mention heist movies. Most of them I find a complete bore and not as clever as they think they are.

Is Johnny a protected FBI informant?

reply

I don't know if it's considered a specific genre other than "action", which I generally do like, but I've never understood the popularity of the Fast and Furious franchise.

reply

It's the Silly Action genre.

reply

Lots of action movies are excellent actionkamen and not silly at all

reply

That's why I said movies like Fast & Furious, The Expendables, various Jason Statham movies, Kill Bill, etc. are in the Silly Action genre. You know, instead of the more Serious Action genre, like Terminator, Taken, Heat, etc.

reply

Ah, ok
I liked Kill Bill but the others you cited were pretty silly

reply

Those movies are indeed silly.

reply

You don't like action movies?
First Blood, Die Hard, Terminator..?

reply

Did you forget Speed is one of my favourite movies???

A silly action movie can be very entertaining, but they ARE still silly. But The Fast and the Furious is TOO silly for me.

reply

Not a Fast/Furious fan either, I think I only saw two and have forgotten them

I know you liked speed, you made that comment last week about 'the bus making that jump' and I laughed😉

reply

I make that comment every week at home, but then nobody laughs. You're a much better audience.😘

reply

You are consistent and always fine company sweetie🥰

reply

I read it too, it was hilarious.

reply

I'm going to adopt you guys!😁

Movies where people survive things, like that stupid movie where James Franco has a boulder fall on him, or when those idiots tried to climb up Everest. It's just two hours of actors laying around going "ooo boy this sure does suck."

reply

Haha, yeah.. that's 127 Hours (2010.) Fortunately the movie was not 127 hours long lol. Even worse is movies like that but with the good people died in the end, like in Everest (2015.) Like what were we supposed to feel?

reply

I never saw Everest, never wanted to. But at least what you described added some realism, since good people don't always live/win and bad people don't always get what they deserve.

reply

It's based on a true story.

reply

Yeah it was. I was living in Montana when it happened and everyone was talking about it. Amazing true life story, but unfortunately not a very exciting movie reenactment.

reply

Read 'Into Thin Air'. Written by Jon Krakaur. He was on the 1996 expedition
reporting for Outdoor magazine. It's his personal account of what happened and why. Absolutely gripping, one of the best books I've ever read. The movie was shit. (But there are many very good documentaries about that ill-fated journey).

reply

Movies that are predictable from beginning to end. Like "action" movies. You know the star is going to get out of every "dangerous" situation, will win the fight, etc.

I never liked science fiction. (Except the first Back to the Future movie).

"Based on true story" movies that change/distort facts to make the viewer form a certain opinion, even if that opinion is not based on actual facts.

reply

I’m with you on the dance movies, I don’t get it. The high school musical crap also.
I hate rom-coms. Seen one, seen um all. Not really a fan of most action movies either. I get bored pretty easily with those as well as the superhero movies.

reply

Ikr. Dance movies treated as if everything and everyone revolves around dancing. Like dancing is a matter of life and death, oh come on now.

Also silly genre in my opinion is gambling movies. You know, just like dancing movies, but gambling instead of dancing. They try to portray gamblers as if they're heroes in a battlefield or something. It's just so goofy!

And computer hacker movies. Why are there so many of them? They are most often ridiculous and so over the top. Computer hacking is not a cool looking activity. It's just a guy sitting in front of monitor typing furiously. May as well make an office secretary movie lol.

reply

Yes, yes, and yes! I totally agree with the gambling movie thing, lmao at them being heroes in a battlefield. They almost always consist of some old school gambler that’s teaching the young buck how to “really” play poker.
I pretty much avoid hacker/computer flicks because I don’t care enough about it and yeah it just isn’t a cool looking activity! The movie Secretary was way more interesting than any hacker flick. Don’t knock the “secretary” genre. 😁

reply

I don't like romantic comedies but some of my friends have made me sit through them
When Harry Met Sally was about the best of them in my limited experience

Really sad dramas (someone has aids or cancer, a kid is dying, spousal abuse...) are a bit too much for me

reply

Action. (Sorry, just realised you're probably a fan due to your name.) Seen one, seen 'em all, give or take a few explosions and fights.

I love a good dance movie. The Tango Lesson was superb, and I can think of several others. But I agree Magic Mike sucked. I could hardly believe MM agreed to be in it, and anyone thought it was a good story to make into a movie.

reply

Musicals, I have no idea why they are singing.

reply

I don't like them either. I watched Mama Mia a while back and was fast-forwarding through all the musical numbers. Which probably only left about 20 minutes or less to watch 😐

reply

😂😂why are y’all breaking into song right now!? Seriously though!
