It did not side with the US or USSR during the cold war and is therefore part of the 3rd world. It has absolutely nothing to do with how rich or poor the country is.

Switzerland avoids alliances that might entail military, political, or direct economic action and has been neutral since the end of its expansion in 1515 when it defeated the French. Its policy of neutrality was internationally recognized at the Congress of Vienna in 1815, well before the Cold War.
As crazy as it sounds, depending on which definition you use, the OP is correct. The Republic of Ireland would also fall into this category. I just Googled it and was surprised at the answer.
shareEven before the Soviet Union collapsed, I think the more commonly understood meaning was “undeveloped countries” rather than “nonaligned countries”. Today, I wouldn’t expect more than one person in a hundred to understand it as being the latter.
