Great 2-Character Movies 1930-70s

I don't know who recommended "The Last Day of Summer" but thanks. I only gave it a 7.5/10, because there wasn't much meaningful dialogue, but I love movies along these lines.

-Man
-Woman
-Environment of their own

Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison (1957)

Midnight Cowboy (69)
Very depressing but some legendary dialogue and acting

agree great movie, but there were many characters - the rich old lady, the girl at the party, the horny gay guy at the movies, the 'minister', probably a few i've forgotten.

reply

I thought it was all about Ratso and Joe Buck and their failures but ultimately their ability to connect with another person
They both finally found a friend, someone who wouldnt harm them or rip them off...of course it all ends in sorrow but still...
The other characters, while interesting, were just part of the main theme of two down and out deadbeats finding friendship

reply

agree, which opens up a lot of films with two predominating characters

I suppose that i probably hijacked this thread but i did so with the best of intentions
I am not ashamed;)

The Duellists (77)
Carradine was fine but Keitel's Napoleonic officer-by-way-of Brooklyn accent was sort of distracting...
Two French officers engage in a decades long series of duels for their honor
It is as great as it sounds!
Directed by Ridley Scott

The Old Man and the Sea (58)
Spencer Tracy and a gigantic fish!
Good movie but a way better book

reply

moon (ok, too recent but...)

2 clones & gerty

Brief Encounter (1945)

The Bridges of Madison County (95)
Clint Eastwood screws Meryl Streep near a bridge i think
To be honest i didnt see this one
Sounds kind of gross though

reply

I saw it, thought it'd be very cool. Meryl has the worst Italian accent I ever heard.. It could have been better.
