Best TV Series Finales

It’s probably harder to end a series well than it is to begin it, especially if it’s had a long run and a lot of fans. What shows do you think ended well? For example:

Newhart, which ended with Bob waking up in bed next to Mary Frann who’d played his wife in his previous show, The Bob Newhart Show, and realizing that he only dreamed that he’d owned a Vermont Bed & Breakfast for years!

The Sopranos: And then, suddenly, NOTHING, no sound, no picture. They just pulled the plug right out of the outlet.

Mary Tyler Moore. The staff all walk out of the office, but leave the lights on. Thirty seconds later, Mary—always-dependable Mary—opens the door a crack, takes one last look around, smiles a poignant smile, and turns out the lights.

Cheers: Sam has sold the bar. After one last round, The Gang leave. Sam locks the door, walks to the bar to clean up. A hand knocks on the door’s window. Sam replies, sadly, “We’re closed.”

As I typed this, I realized that these series had something in common in addition to a great
finale. They were all class acts from head to toe.

The X- Files (2002).

The Sopranos finale really sucked. There was so much controversy about the ending. I don't think it was ever resolved. If it was let me know.

I'm not invested in the final ep of Sopranos, so it doesn't bother me one way or t'other. But a show that delivered that much BANG during it's run, I'm not gonna down grade on the last show.
As is often the case, there are two kinds of people in the world -- those that like to have a nice, easy resolution tied up in a bow, and those that respect the creative forces enough to have their vision culminate in the manner they choose.
I have no problem with the finale of the Sopranos. And that's just me.

Freaks and Geeks -- Lindsay leaves home presumably to spend the summer at The University of Michigan but when the bus arrives in Ann Arbor, she hooks up with her friends and takes off -- all with the Dead's 'Ripple' playing in the backround.

God, how I loved that show.
Too bad it was only on for one season.

Frasier. Everyone thinks he is on a plane heading for his new job. Then you hear it is Chicago. Hes going after his one true love.

I heard that Niles marries Daphne, but who is Frasier going after???

Yes Niles marries Daphne in Season 10 - Episode 1

Frasier meets Charlotte in the last season (played by Laura Linney) They fall head over heals for each other. But she has to move to Chicago for work. Frasier gets a job in I think San Francisco. The way it is set up you think he is on the plane going to his new job but at the very end you hear the captain say we are now landing in Chicago.

IMO I think Frasier is the best sitcom ever.

I think Bob woke up next to Suzanne Pleshette who played his wife Emily on his first show. Mary Frann played his wife on his second show, the one set in the inn in Vermont.
