Why are we here?

I was thinking about this today. . ... Is there a purpose? It seems the world is full of conflict. . . .wars, political differences, family problems, etc.

reply

I try to not think too deeply because I find it overwhelming when I do. Take it one day at a time, live for today, and enjoy the journey as much as I can.

That question is not a good one to ask, imo. An affirmative answer would require us to be in service to, aka enslaved by, someone or something else.

Having no answer at all, that we "just are," is freedom and potential.

To teach the species that follows our existence what not to do.

To talk about movies, duh!

Best response, lol.

Whitman:

Oh me! Oh life! of the questions of these recurring,
Of the endless trains of the faithless, of cities fill’d with the foolish,
Of myself forever reproaching myself, (for who more foolish than I, and who more faithless?)
Of eyes that vainly crave the light, of the objects mean, of the struggle ever renew’d,
Of the poor results of all, of the plodding and sordid crowds I see around me,
Of the empty and useless years of the rest, with the rest me intertwined,
The question, O me! so sad, recurring—What good amid these, O me, O life?

Answer.
That you are here—that life exists and identity,
That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.

There is no ultimate purpose. There is only void.

Doesn't mean that you can't create your own purpose. Purpose is arbitrary anyway. So you can have any purpose you want.

I'm interested to evolutionary biology, so for me I'd like to think that life's purpose is to continue information. Using our genes (i.e., having offsprings and maximising their survivalability), and by passing knowledge (written or otherwise).

reply

Maybe I'm just thinking about it too much, instead of taking it one day at a time and contributing whatever I can to try and make it a better world. Although that seems to be a big task these days.

Help others out when you can. Take time to appreciate the small things in life. Life can be bleak, but acts of kindness are remembered and not forgotten.

To experience life; its joys, its pains, emotions, to see reality through our own lens and senses, embark on something unique, something profound, intangible, irreplaceable in its fragile nature, the very essence of life itself.

It wouldn't be that surprising if such an answer really is simple but easy to overlook.

Love your answer, Twin! Nice to see you posting, too :)

"Reach for the stars because one day we will be among them," a favorite professor of mine once said. Your kindness is reciprocated, Cat. (^ ^)

To be honest, I have no idea why we are here. Most probably there is not a reason, just that on this planet, due to a combination of cirmunstances, life has been possible and the human beings had an astonishing development in the last thousand years (not always for good regrettably).

Anyway, now that we are here, let try to make the best of it and enjoy as much as possible (for example writing in a chat like this here).
