Worst song ever?

Yeah it's been recorded by dozen of artists at this point and I hate every version. I feel similarly about Big Yellow Taxi. That's another one I just can't understand why you would want to make a cover version.

my sister was in love with this song. played it obsessively.

it is horrible, undeniably, but i think it's awful in a fascinating way. musically, well... i actually could imagine an alternative universe version of this song, performed by...let's say the carpenters, or even olivia newton-john, made with one of those nice, lush 70s easy-listening arrangements, and loving that quite a bit.

but it's the lyrics that turn this into something catastrophically awful. it's delivered so sincerely, & it's lyrics are so ridiculous, and they get more and more ridiculous with each line, climaxing with that absurd 'do you know what paradise is...' speech near the end. honestly, i don't think the most gifted parodist or comedian could make something this cringe-inducingly absurd.
