Anthology TV Series

Does anyone else like anthology shows? Don't get me wrong, I love a good story arc, but as a lover of short stories, I have to say I appreciate people who can contain a story within a single episode (or season) and manage to pack a big punch with it. What are some anthology shows, if any, that you guys like?

Some of the ones I like are:

The Twilight Zone (which happens to be my all-time favorite show)
Alfred Hitchcock Presents
Goosebumps (this holds a special place in my heart from childhood)
American Horror Story (some seasons are better than others, but I still really like this show)
Black Mirror

I can watch and enjoy both, but the thing about ongoing shows is that they tend to get stale and repetitive after a few years. You almost never get that with episode-by-episode anthologies.

I'd never heard of Kolchak: the Night Stalker before reading your comment, but after looking it up I'm really thinking of looking into it. It sounds interesting. The X-Files is one of my favorites but I do think it meandered a bit too much, especially during the later seasons. I don't remember seeing any of Outer Limits, but I've watched a few Tales of the Crypt episodes and really liked them.

Yeah, loved Twilight Zone, Goosebumps. In particular, I was a huge Are You Afraid of the Dark? fan.

I've seen bits and pieces of Are You Afraid of the Dark? but not enough to call myself a fan. The Twilight Zone and Goosebumps are both awesome. I'm curious, what are some of your favorite episodes from them (if you can remember any)?

reply

Are You Afraid of the Dark? – Season 1, Episode 7: Tale of the Captured Souls
Goosebumps – Season 1, Episode 4: The Girl Who Cried Monster and Season 2, Episode 1: Be Careful What You Wish For
Twilight Zone – Season 1, Episode 6: Examination Day/A Message from Charity (however I haven’t watched this show in general in a good while, so my memory is foggy af regarding it).

Twilight Zone and Black Mirror are both excellent. Another one of a similar style is Outer Limits.

Yes they are. :) I haven't seen any of Outer Limits yet (don't know why) but I'm wanting to check it out.

Night Gallery Late 60s/ early 70s
Ghost Story from the early 70s.
Thriller from the early to mid 60s.

The thing I love about all of the shows you and everyone else mentioned, besides the stories, are the fantastic performances of the actors. We get the chance to see young actors at the beginning of their careers, who went on to become major film stars.
