Memories Make Me Want To Go Back There....

Ckid has given me an idea.

Thinking about songs that tell of memories.
About a specific event or time in the singers life maybe.

While listening to these songs we can picture the story of the song.
Sometimes we put in our own pictures from our lives and recall a certain time.

Songs like

Springsteen- Eric Church.
I can get a visual of him driving his truck around on July Saturday night with
the love of his life at that time. Reminding me of similar times.

Boys of Summer- Don Henley
Kind of the same thing. Remembering summer loves that are gone but never forgotten.

What are some songs about looking back that you like?

reply

I'm sure I've said this before but Double Trouble and the Rebel MC, Street Tuff dancing with my pal, no males, no complications just sheer joy!

reply

Good times and you'll always have that memory.
No males does make it easier at times doesn't it.

Anytime I hear Jim Nabors sing I recall a moment my grandad, Papa, shared with me about an experience he dreamt while suffering a major heart attack. He remembered witnessing a majestic sight; a gleaming, flowing river overlooking a green field of rows and rows of trees right next to a sloping mountain under a calm afternoon sun, the shine of light glistening everywhere. He was resting in a canoe heading downstream. All the while, he could hear a wonderful sound of a man singing. It wasn't until after his dream did he realize he had heard Jim Nabors.

Papa had the heart attack at the age of 63. He continued to live another 20 years still able to walk upright and in great health. A man I continue to look up at to this very day, extremely funny, witty, jack-of-all-trades charm, smartest person I ever knew, and had a way of making everyone feel at ease. Typing this brought back some cherished feelings. Thank you.

I love hearing you talk about your family. It really does my heart good to hear of the love you have for them.
Sounds like you have a wonderful support group surrounding you.

Thank you for sharing this memory of your grandfather.

reply

There's a bunch of stories I have of my family so I hope you don't mind if I share them from time to time. Don't hesitate to let me know I'm going overboard with them as I would like to reciprocate sincerity. I love my family very much and am fortunate to have their guidance and experiences to reflect on, which not everyone has.

Wonderful story, A.

reply

It is. I think I can remember the Andy Griffith episode where Gomer's magnificent singing voice was in effect, sprung on the world.

reply

I understand db that there's some TV edits that removed portions of Gomer's singing, at least on Gromer Pyle: U.S.M.C. If this is true, it is a grave shame. It's no wonder Nabors managed to have a lasting relationship with the annual Indy 500 racing event.

reply

Thanks, Glen. I enjoy reading other people's stories just as much, fun to share and relate to experiences we can learn from.

Boys of Summer is a good one.

Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams
1979 - Smashing Pumpkins
'74-'75 - The Connells
Nightswimming - REM

reply

74-75 is a great choice.
You never cease to surprise me. Never would have thought you'd know this song.

"I was the one who let you know
I was your sorry ever after"

reply

It was pretty succesful here in Europe. There was an article a few years back that revisited all the people featured in the music video. The man in the wheelchair has unfortunately passed away.

reply

I listen to this song all the time but never saw the video until right now.
Kind of just hits you doesn't it.
A beautiful song.

reply

It is. And the video really reinforces that feeling of nostalgia.

Desert Moon -Dennis DeYoung

He goes back to his hometown and relives his youth with his friends.
Reminds me of the times I have done this over the years.
The video is like an entire movie. A really nice song.

Back In Your Arms by Bruce Springsteen
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fT8uxI7XN0E

The song is a lament about a lost love and the desire to undo what had happened.
The second half takes you right into the singer's heart and soul ...

"You came to me with love and kindness
But all my life I've been a prisoner of my own blindness
I met you with indifference
And I don't know why
Now I wake from my dream
I wake from my dream to this world
Where all is shadow and darkness
And above me a dark sky unfurls
And all the love I've thrown away and lost
I'm longing for again
Now darlin' I just wanna be
Back in your arms, back in your arms again
Back in your arms, back in your arms again
Back in your arms, back in your arms again
Back in your arms, back in your arms again"

Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin
The lyrics let me live my childhood again while raising my son and watching him grow up.
It goes by so fast...

reply

Well said and another perfect example.

This song always reminds me of things left unsaid.
Appreciate the people that you have while you can.
You won't have them forever.

Very similar to the sentiment expressed in this old classic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=An2a1_Do_fc

In Color - Jamey Johnson

A great song about remembering days past of being in war.
Always makes me think of all the people I know who have served and lost their lives.
