The BIGGEST STAR in the world right now...

This is purely for fun...too many elements could go into your choice to be definitive but let's consider:
•Box Office totals
•Popularity of Projects
•Acting Chops
•Career Longevity
•General Charisma on Screen
•Other Skills (writer, director etc...)

I had a few in mind but i have chosen Tom Hanks as the greatest star right now...Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile, Cast Away, Forrest Gump, Catch Me if you Can, Volunteers, Toy Story!!
The guy does comedy, drama, scary war action, animation...and you just love him in everything right?
Of course you do...we ALL love Tom

87 acting projects
54 Producer credits
$4.55 Billion Box Office over his career and hes not going anywhere...
I think he is our greatest living movie star!

Would you like to share your pick?

I think Ford belongs in the discussion because of the several fun and iconic franchises he has starred in and he was willing to experiment too (mosquito Coast...)
His Box Office numbers are through the roof and he has screen presence to spare in his earlier roles

He has been a bit of a taciturn, crabby, fuddy-duddy for the last decade or so in performances and interviews
I must admit this irks me

This knocked him off my short list

No judgement Amigo;)

Nice to hear and i admire the message and your intent

For the record you seem to be very positive and fun and i know im not the only one that thinks so

Thx:)

I've got a rep for being a " grumpy grandpa " on here but I haven't yet yelled at kids to get off my lawn when they're walking home from school. 😉

reply

[deleted]

That's pretty tolerant.

reply

Hanks was a much more lively actor back in his comedy days. I'll pass on "Big" and instead do a shout-out to "The 'Burbs"!!!

reply

Love Joe vs. the Volcano! Same writer/director as Doubt, with Meryl Streep. Those are the only two movies he's directed... What an interesting pair.

reply

I vote Bachelor Party!

reply

Never got around to catching that one, but I've always meant to.

reply

Juvenile, but great fun!

reply

The hotdog scene! 😂

reply

That was hysterical! That poor woman!

reply

I'll go with Tom Cruise, he's been at the top for over 30 years now even with the Scientology thing hanging from him.

reply

He was on my short list as well
Guy has done $Billions in business and he is very likeable onscreen
Also helps that he remains very good lookingl

Im am amazed that he keeps getting good roles in big things with the crazy way he acts publicly...
Someone on MC posted a Scientology video of him being interviwed some months back...i simply couldnt turn it off!!
He acted insane...it was really weird

reply

Cruise's looks have vastly improved over time if anything. Back in the '80s he was a kind of unsightly presence tbh.

reply

Interesting
I always found him handsome but its kind of striking how he continues to look great with age...

Lucky guy!

reply

I remember seeing the video of his bizarre appearance on Oprah Winfrey a few years ago but nothing recently. From all I've seen and read over the years he seems to me as a good guy.

reply

By far the biggest star working today... Arguably of all time...

Still on top of his game despite movies like The Mummy... Scientology, Oprah, etc...

The next Mission Impossible movie (Fall Out) will show this clearly....

reply

Jon Favreau.

reply

Actor, writer, director...not a slouch
Thank you

reply

If we'd gone back a bit we could have had a slew of people like Clint Eastwood, Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Mel Gibson, Leonard Nimoy or even Alfred Hitchcock but, for now, Jon seems like the one to watch.

reply

He'll always be Pete Becker to me.

reply

He was good as Pete. I felt a little sorry for him though with his supreme confidence. That's what a genuine Tony Stark would be like in real life (Which is why he is good alongside him in those movies).

reply

You said Right Now. Gotta be either The Rock or Robert Downey

reply

Downey has had that career arc, hardship and life experience that makes me root for the guy

Interesting early movie choices, somewhat more commercial stuff now ( who can blame him $$$) and he seems a charismatic and well grounded guy
Lovely in interviews and very entertaining on screen

A fine pick Cap

reply

He was adorable in "Tuff Turf," Yonk. Remember? Just an excellent placement.

reply

Oh THAT was a fun movie!
Nice recall My Man;)

reply

I can't argue about Tom Hanks. You have done your homework on him too.
May I submit for your approval?
Meryl Streep.
Look at her body of work. Look at how long she has been in the business
She has done so much Television, Films, Voice overs. I can't tell you if she tops Hanks in projects and box office, but I'd say she's one of the Biggies. 😁

reply

Agreed on Meryl Streep. She is iconic, although I think she is a tad overrated...maybe 8%.

reply

81 film projects
$2.1billion Generated
3 Oscars
155 other awards
355 nominations...

Beautiful, classy and crazy talented!

Fine choice Miss

reply

He doesn't have the longevity or the broad appeal however for pure earning power I would suggest Seth Rogen. I might be wrong but I think he was the biggest earner for several years. On the other hand he may be more of a niche market.

reply

He probably is more 'niche' but i enjoy the guy too

Sorry...ETA: he showed a bit of dramatic range in Observe and Report (09)
This guy should spread his wings more...

reply

Observe and Report was great.

Also led me to this musical gem:

https://youtu.be/EO5KICxGUEc

It’s a grungy, unfinished track but I’m pretty much obsessed with it. So good.

reply

Observe and Report, definitely a laugh out loud comedy. I'd love a sequel where Ronnie finally makes it into the police department.

reply

Johnny Depp?

reply

Not bad

3 Oscar Noms (Sweeney Todd, Pirates and Finding Neverland)
75 award wins and 137 other nominations
A legitimate 34 year career of some wonderful classics (Nightmare on Elm Street, Platoon and Donnie Broscoe...whoa!!!)
8 producer credits
Nearly $3.7 Billion Box Office

Comes off as bright and charming, if a bit 'out there...'

He's on the list for sure

reply

Apparently Marky Mark was the highest paid actor last year. I believe he's also a producer.

In second place was The Rock, he seems to be everywhere right now.

And don't forget about Asian superstars like Jackie Chan and Shahrukh Khan!

reply

Some good names there Stratego

Somehow, i just knew to expect a Bollywood guy from you;)

reply

😜 Shall I also mention Salman Khan? He finished behind Shahrukh!

reply

LOL!
You can mention whatever you like lady
You know ill listen😉

reply

Okay. I'm beautiful and wonderful, but no one seems to get it!😠

reply

There there sweet Stratego
Message recieved...jeez you tell us often enough😉
