Mine is Runaway (1984).
The special effects and sense of suspense and tension was just mind blowing. I like that it is tasteful and has no nudity as was the standard at the time in thrillers such as this.

It's got edge, but, it cheats terribly by bailing out the Dietrich character. She conspired to murder, plain & simple.

It starts one way:::with mayhem & murder---then reverses course to jocularity & prat fall. The mangled (man/family cheated out of their money & ranch) & the murdered (the sheriff) are shown without consideration. After that everything & everybody is held to accounts in weird ass ways & means,,,if at all. I wanted Stewart to take her ass aside and read her the fuckin' riot act for what she permitted & accompliced. Instead he plays stinky finger with her. Sure, she dies at the end, but, as a heroine. I was appalled.

"The Heiress" from 1949. Montgomery Clift & Olivia de Havilland. She is a spinster with a modest fortune waiting for her at her father's death. He's a fortune hunter.
The father, played by Ralph Richardson is evil incarnate as his daughter learns.
The 3 combine for an experience the viewer will not soon forget.

A great adventure movie, the beginning of Arnold the movie star, cool fantasy elements, badass villain in the form or James Earl Jones, tragedy, romance, and revenge. What's not to like?
Stand by Me
The best coming of age film, the best Stephen King adaptation, the best Rob Reiner movie, River Phoenix's greatest performance, the definitive Kiefer Sutherland role, makes me laugh and cry every time without fail. Makes me yearn for childhood and appreciate my experience at the same time.

Yes, it stands up. It won't be bound by it's supposed nature. It has a mighty heart and that heart beats fiercely, & is full blooded.

shareI'm skeptical, but I will give it a try. I like the first one enough that I watch the sequel and Red Sonja occasionally. I tried the remake once and shut it off after 5 minutes. It was so bad I don't even like to talk about it.

There is a moment in "Conan The Barbarian" where "Valeria" is fleeing thru the caves. It's a long shot as a "monster" is shown leaping from the rocks on the left side of the frame. This is a tribute shot & a reenactment of a drawing by Frank Frazetta.

Yes, Sutherland''s "Ace". Reiner injects "Ace" with a regularity that is diabolical. This character loiters murderous intent in damn near every scene he's allocated.
*"If either of you a thousand dollars, I'd kill you both."
*The playing "chicken" scene on the road. It's not his response to their brush with death, but, "their" response. "Ace" is already dead, most likely soon after arrival.
*"You're gonna have to kill me "Ace." --- "No problem."
& yet psychos, they're functional. He's had dealings with the Lachance family, with the late "Denny." "C'mon, Lachance, you must have some of the good sense your brother had."

Sutherland doesn't let "Ace" die, he keeps him undead & immediately sets him into "The Lost Boys."
