Do people realize that the TV News is fake?

Not fake as in “made up” but fake as in “purposely misleading”. Every story about a white cop beating a black man who jay walked is intentionally chosen to push a liberal narrative that this country is racist towards blacks, even though more white people get beaten by cops, the news never covers that.

The constant coverage of violent crimes and overall negativity is to keep people scared, because scared people are more likely to buy things which has been proven in many studies, even though violent crime has dropped drastically since the 1980’s the news still pretends like it’s out of control.

Heck just look at how the news covers Donald Trump compared to Obama. One they go out of their way to try and smear and get impeached while the other is covered as a savior and inspirational. Care to guess which is who?

Or what about when the news claims that scientists now say that drinking more Red Wine can reduce the risk of cancer or drinking coffee makes you less likely to develop Alzheimer’s, it’s all misleading bull crap to get you to buy these things, they’re being paid to help bump up company stocks.

Long story short, the news is basically corrupt and morally bankrupt through in through.

I remember in the early reporting of the recent Parkland, Florida shooting where the superintendent of that school system was being interviewed. At the end, the interviewer dramatically referred to it as the worst school shooting in the state's history. The superintendent appeared crestfallen and quietly and somberly agreed. Thereafter, they immediately kept reporting that he had made that claim and always with an emphasis. It was such a blatant display of sensationalizing. No he did not say that, he only quietly acknowledged it. It was subtly misleading, some might even say insignificant, but clearly an example of a larger pattern of putting a deceitful spin on the reporting.

Thats a fine example of why i rarely watch the news...its agenda driven and misleading
I do watch the weather and sports segments but the rest is mostly nonsense from pretty people with great hair

That it is but I prefer to stay informed about what's going on in the world. I maintain a sense of wariness and suspicion and try to practice discernment and discrimination.

I tend to just jump into the pool everyday without context...its just easier to take the hits that way, keep afloat and im trying to limit my exposure to anxiety inducing crap 'ya know...
May i add that i really do enjoy you and your presence here is quite fun

I dunno, I think being uninformed can be a distinct disadvantage at times. I actually worked in the media for a number of years so I have some behind the scenes insights and that's why I'm a stickler for accuracy.

Life has molded me into kind of a scrapper so sometimes it's just second nature for me to fall into that mode. But I'm actually more of the peaceful warrior type and really don't enjoy strife. Maybe you're right about the inevitability. Again, I dunno. I get that you prefer a preponderance of comedy here but for me that's just too lopsided. I like a nice mix of both thought provoking and playful, fun-loving topics. I think that's why it's easy for me to get along with dewey because he seems to be able to pull that off so naturally.

Granted, TV news does sensationalize a lot of things to a great deal, and unnecessarily, but if the media didn't expose all those things, they wouldn't be doing their job. For all kinds of reasons, people have to be made aware of the fact that the above-mentioned things happen.

I do think, however, that the weather reporters often do tend to sensationalize upcoming storms, especially winter storms, far too much.

People are very much aware that a small percentage of police officers suck at their job and get overzealous and decide to beat an unarmed citizen who just committed a crime, however the general masses aren’t aware that more white people get shot and killed by the police each year than blacks do, the News makes it look like way more blacks get killed by the police than whites do because they only choose to show stories of blacks being shot and killed by police officers, do you see how this information is misleading and causing the masses to reach incorrect conclusions? Or how the media is practically brainwashing black people into fearing the police?

Yes I agree that crimes need to be covered but only if they are covering it fairly and without bias, if they can’t be bothered to do that then maybe it’s time we start holding the news accountable for what they have done to this country.

The trouble is, however, LepInTheHood, is that even though the police officers who get overzealous and decide to beat up an unarmed citizen, or shoot people, or pull people over indiscriminately, etc., are probably in the minority, they still do an injustice to the other cops who don't act like that. One of the problems, however, is the fact that the United States, as a society and a culture, is entirely too dependent upon, and revolves around the gun, and we've been seeing the net results, in more ways than one.

I don't watch the news at all. It's all just scaremongering and there's no point living your life in fear.

I watched a documentary once that said this was purposefully done so people relinquish more and more of their freedom to governments/military so they can protect them against exaggerated threats.

Plus I mean, the news is a business. If all they tell viewers is 'Today Granny walked her cat' people would stop watching so they have to keep people hooked with embellishments.

I was not going to bother with the following until this thread came up. NBC News during the past week had a segment with a little girl admiring the recent portrait of Michelle Obama. This little girl looked at the portrait and declared MO a queen. While I understand that the last 5-7 minutes of a news cast can go to human interest the portrait story was still in the portion normally allocated to headline stories. As a human interest story I have no problem but the story in my mind was set up in a way to make it more than a human interest story. Granted I never lived behind the Iron Curtain or in a totalitarian state but in my mind that was a story that a state controlled media would run. I don't want dynasties whether they be Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump or whatever. Best man or woman up for the job period.

Only if there were stories about some little girl admiring a portrait of a conservative to go along with stories about MO. And they appeared during the last 5 minutes of the newscast which tends to be human interest. Further, I don't even have an ax to grind with MO unlike most other conservatives. I actually appreciated her effort to convert some of the White House lawn into a vegetable garden. Oh well, I can see some of us are made to be mindless cogs in a Marxist state but not me.

I've always had great respect for American media but I have realized that there is a clear bias of republican bad, democrat good. It's truly disgusting. And there is zero objectivity and zero shame about it, it's shocking. There is no one saying hey wait a minute, this is wrong. You see someone like Ellen DeGeneres interviewing Tonya Harding and praising her and it's like, wait a minute? Didn't she whack her competitor's knee?? America has lost its mind.
