Indians mix English with their native language?

So i am watching this indian horror flick and and they are speaking both English and Hindi/Hindu (however it's called). I would say it's roughly 30% English and 70% their native language. Is this an actual thing or just a device for the movie for the dialogues to seem modern or whatever?

This happens in a lot of films, I watch a fair amount of stuff from Korea and recently watched a show from Singapore..English everywhere. Its interesting to hear because its not always just a word or two but entire sentences or phrases.

It's a result of colonialism and neo-colonialism, a world dominated by first British and now American economic and cultural hegemony. It's not just in India either but lots of countries, though India is one of the largest examples of it.

Now that actually makes some sense...
