Directors Guild of America Nominees 2017

The five nominees for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for 2017 (alphabetical order):

- Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water)
- Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird)
- Martin McDonagh (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri)
- Christopher Nolan (Dunkirk)
- Jordan Peele (Get Out)

Who do you think should win for best director this year?

Of the nominees, I've only seen Dunkirk and Get Out so far and can say that what Nolan acheived in Dunkirk towers above Peele's work in Get Out... I really want to see the others before Oscar time...

Any interesting omissions?

I haven't seen these two, but no nominations for either Paul Thomas Anderson (Phantom Thread), nor Speilberg (The Post)... Interesting...

I saw all except The Shape of Water which I could not finish. Three Billboards will win imo

Who gives a crap? The Oscar nominations will be announced on Tuesday Jan 23. That's the big one.

Another notable omission is James Gray for The Lost City of Z... That was a superbly directed film... Cinematic and fully engagging... Also, was shot on 35mm film... Hardly anyone is talking about that movie now...
