I can't choose a specific movie, but the body of work of the very talented Newman family, especially Alfred Newman and his nephew, Randy Newman.

I don't notice film scores very much. So many of them are generic. But I was always struck that the music Peer Raben did for Fassbinder was unusually melodic.

If I had to go with someone more conventional, I would say Jerry Goldsmith. This theme of his, and the arrangement, gives me chills.

Oh yeah. His score for Basic Instinct is by far one of the most chilling scores I've heard. Glad the Oscars agree.
