Annoying things people do in the real world

OK. In an effort to provide some variety from politically-charged posts and from one poster constantly making ridiculous demands about how the site should be changed to suit him, let's add another topic: What do people do, in real life -- meaning NOT on-line -- that you find annoying? I'd guess that those who text/talk at the movies are a given, as are those so absorbed in their phones they have no clue of their surroundings, but feel free to add them if you wish. Some of my own include:

-- People who stop in the middle of a supermarket aisle to check their lists, decide on an item, etc., blocking anyone from passing and oblivious to what they're doing. Ditto people having conversations in the middle of an aisle.

-- Drivers who never use turn signals

-- People who have conversations on their phones loud enough for everyone to hear

-- People who let their kids run wild in restaurants and stores

-- Cyclists who think traffic laws don't apply to them and ride right through red lights and stop signs

-- People who waste everyone's time at the post office by having no clue how to mail something and having 8 million questions for the clerk, 99% of which could have been answered via a 5-minute visit to the USPS web site. And it's not a matter of not having computer access, at least in my experience; virtually all of them also have smartphones. In fact, have seem some checking their e-mail while clogging up the line.

-- People who treat bookstores -- the few that are left -- as public libraries, and sit on the floor in aisles reading books.

-- Drivers who figuratively break their necks to pass you, then get in front of you and move like frozen molasses

There are more, but I'm sure you get the idea....

Don't like people who chew gum, Dazed?

reply

Out loud...i don't agree either.

reply

[deleted]

Even if they chew it quietly? Honestly curious...agree "cows" are annoying

reply

[deleted]

Sorry, what is a chugger?

reply

[deleted]

Yes, i always feel so guilty when i have no change. always wonder how they do now that everyone has debit...just saying haha

reply

Why do you feel guilty? If you gave to all of them you'd need to e waving your own can

reply

Ah, I feel guilty about everything. I was broke and pissed off once when someone came up to ask for money for grocceries, so I came back at them and asked them why don't they give me some money for the same. I think they were shocked. Looked no different than anyone who has a decent income, so i doubt it was for food. Anyways....

reply

I smoke constantly and especially like lighting up near 'NO SMOKING' signs
I think you would hate me lol
I also hold up lines at the grocery store and i curse constantly and i am almost always drunk
Im a jerk...BUT you seem cool
Oh - i also hate little kids-they are tiny shitheads
And yeah...fuck bicycle guys...jeez ...total fruits

Lololol youre good peeps Dazed

See you around im sure:)
Oh quick/stupid question...is your handle from Dazed and Confused?
I LOVE that movie!!

reply

Yes rudeness sucks. I hold doors too, always smile, always greet people and say thank you, etc. People really respond to that basic human decency.

reply

💸

reply

Yes!! Especially cannot stand people who are rude to waitstaff.

reply

[deleted]

Had several friends who were wait persons. You don't wanna even know what unnecessarily rude/nasty people were served sometimes

reply

[deleted]

Gross only begins to describe it... Moral of the story is never be rude to waitstaff. If they actually deserve it -- and sometimes that's the case -- always wait until your food is in front of you.

reply

Yeah, I never got regulars who came back time and time again to complain. If it's that bad or not to your liking, go somewhere else! No one will mind. Totally annoying.

reply

Its totally embarrassing to be out with someone who is rude to staff. I want to die in these cases. You can totally tell someone who has never spent a day in the service industry sometimes. Ugh.

reply

[deleted]

Was it Ross misbehaving? haha. I don't remember this one, but I'm just taking a guess.

Also, people who don't want to give a fair/good tip.
That reminds me of an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm when Larry is out with George, I mean Jason. ;)

But yes I totally agree with you on that, it does make you a better customer and have more patience. I tend to laugh under pressure, so when the restaurant I waited at got super busy I always smiled more! haha.

reply

[deleted]

I feel like some people have just one thing on their agenda that day and that is to pick a fight with a clerk, etc. We're working with money, you yelling at me isn't helping things.

But what makes me mad the most is when that person is clearly new to the job and you can see they're still struggling. What's the point? It certainly isn't going to make them work faster.

With age, I've noticed that I am calmer when dealing with those kinds of people. I wish them a pleasant day /in the tone of "go fÑŠck yourself" usually/ and end the conversation then and there. But I have told peole that they should be very ashamed of themselves. Especially to one very large man who threatened me with physical violence if I didn't have change for the 100 lv. note for one coffee early in the morning. He's been very nice ever since lol.

I hate when they dont even say thanks when you hold the door.

reply

"Drivers who pull out right in front of you. When all they had to do is wait for 10 seconds until you passed."

Not even 10 seconds - try 3 seconds. 🙄 And the space behind you is wide open, not a car in sight. Sheesh.

reply

💸

reply

Yes, can I borrow that snowplow even though it's August??

I will never understand drivers who roll through stop signs, but will come to a complete stop for the yield sign at the roundabouts even though there is no one in sight.

reply

The people who wants to buy a little of that or this...and you are in a hury...

reply

There is a city bus stop a half block from my office, I have to pass it to take the mail before 5pm. The crowd of people waiting for the bus will fill up the sidewalk, blocking it completely. Getting through them is a hassle and they're all looking the other way, watching for a bus. Oh and the edge of the sidewalk is a concrete wall, no way to get around them.

reply

#1 People who do drugs PERIOD! Just don't know why these people should even be allowed to live. Imo you are committing suicide. Why not die faster? Like people who smoke and give kids asthma. If that kid DIES of an asthma attack is the smoker not a murder? Funny how child abuse and murder is OK as long as we are making a profit off of drugs and taxing the hell out of it.

Honesty death penalty for all drug users. That's it, I really don't care. Drug users, sellers, buyers, holders. All need a couple of bullets in the head so that something can finally exist between those ears! We complain about jails over crowding/money. A bullet costs what, 15 cents? PROBLEM SOLVED cheaply and effectively!

Also drugs just make quality of life worse, bad lifestyle promotion/etc. Instead of people buying a gym membership/veggies/etc they are buying drugs. Don't believe me, go into a ghetto neighborhood, and what do you see? Liquor store on every corner. Really degrading society. Now we are opening drug dens. We had so many no smoking laws then we suddenly love drugs??? WHAT?

#2 Stupid people in general. You know those people that get into EASILY PREVENTABLE situations. Just infuriates me. "I got sick, but why?" Well Timmy did you wash your hands before you ate? "No." There you go then!!!!

#3 FADS. Remember in the 90's when soy was your bff? Now we have things that are 'soy free' WOW soy is the devil now!

#4 Dr. Oz making people sit in FRONT OF THEIR TV's 'teaching' them how to lose weight. WHEN THEY COULD ACTUALLY BE OUTSIDE LOSING THE WEIGHT!!!!!! IDIOTS!!!!! I hate Dr. Oz, really, I doubt any one hates him more then me.

#5 Abusive parents. Having them/seeing them. It's a pain to go though and you feel sorry for the kids.

#6 Kids that are out of control. You know parents that think the staff of any and every store is their baby sitter. god I hope the state just takes their kids away, really.

#7 Inconsiderate, selfish, evil, narcissistic, abusive a-holes.

reply

But how do you REALLY feel about these things? (smile)

reply

Everyone does "drugs". They just don't call them that.
Coffee is a drug
alcohol is a drug
aspirin is a drug
blood pressure medicine is a drug
thyroid is a drug
insulin is a drug
chemotherapy is a drug
I am amused by people who think they are better than someone else just because their drug of choice happens to be legal.
Moderation in all things, including judging others.

reply

And before anyone downgrades coffee: Caffeine is deadly. It's also addictive at a high level. If a company today laced sugar water with an addictive drug and marketed it to kids, it would be an outrage... Yet why are Coke and Pepsi laced with caffeine? Because it's addictive. Add the extra sugar intake, diabetes, and calories leading to obesity, suddenly soda has THREE avenues of killing people. The caffeine is the safest of those three, by itself, but its danger is exacerbating the others.

reply

the splitting headache from caffeine withdrawal should be a clue of how powerful that drug is!

reply

No doubt it's powerful, but, like many others, I need my morning coffee.

reply

No different than needing a morning cigarette, or that morning shot of heroin ;)

reply

Uhhhh...caffeine isn't as addicting as the other two. Nicotine is physiologically more addicting than heroin, but not as intense. While that morning cig is indeed harmful long-term and craving a butt can make one frantic, I've never heard of a smoker robbing someone or stealing from loved ones and relatives to score a pack.

reply

Not sure if you are trolling or not. But are you really comparing coffee with cigs and HEROIN? Step one for you stop regurgitating everything you see on TV.

I hate coffee, cigs, heroin. All ARE drugs. ALL are harmful. But I never heard of someone getting lung cancer from drinking coffee or giving a child asthma by drinking it nearby.

These are very disturbing comparisons. YES they are all 'drugs' but TOTALLY different. Are you high right now!? It's like saying a sundress/evening gown are both dresses and you can wear BOTH to a black tie wedding. Or a tux/leisure suit, are both suits, so THEREFORE it's acceptable to wear them to a wedding. WHOA whoa whoa slow down their sparky!

It's like saying saying getting a paper cut and getting stabbed are the same thing since both ways you are getting sliced.....again I know trolls just want to anger you and get a reaction, but I really don't know if you are a troll.....

reply

I was humorously comparing two normal addictions with heroin. I figured the wink would make the sarcasm obvious...

reply

Would you also want to personally murder anyone who wears a sundress to a wedding? Maybe that is the best dress they own.
You did volunteer to MURDER anyone who does ANY drug. Was that sincere or just trying to provoke reactions? This is what I mean about moderation in judgement. We all listed things that annoy us but we didn't all want to commit murder over these annoyances.
WHOA whoa whoa slow down THERE, sparky!

That reminds me of another minor annoyance.
there/their/they're used interchangeably when they are each different words.
It makes my eyeballs twitch, but I wouldn't shoot you for using the wrong word.

reply

Moderation in all things, including judging others.

I love this! So so true.

reply

So if a mass murder was on trial, should we show moderation? Not throw the book at them?

People who do pointless drugs are bad. Child molestation is bad. Rape is bad. Pointless drugs are bad. Really sick of trying to add shades of gray to a BLACK AND WHITE, issue of things that are clearly bad.

Should we show moderation in judging a child molester? Answer me this, no they are just pure evil. You do know that evil/good exits right? Again, not sure if people are trolls.

pointless drugs = BAD
finding a cure to cancer = GOOD
saving a life = GOOD
not punishing a criminal = BAD
molesting a child = BAD
eating a healthy meal = GOOD
world peace = GOOD

LOL at people trying to lessen how evil certain things are. 'in all things' what a blanket statement. You need to use water to wash something thoroughly, but you can't wash a computer w/water for example. There are exceptions.

reply

'So if a mass murder(sic) was on trial, should we show moderation? Not throw the book at them?'

Well, now that you mention it.
If someone went out and just murdered every person who has ever taken any drug, that would be an extreme mass murder of probably 75% of the whole country. So yes, I'd throw the book at them.
Murdering people= BAD
Wanting to murder people= BAD
Thinking that murder solves all problems= BAD

reply

What do you mean by throw the book at them? They do deserve a fair trial, no matter what. I believe that most, if not all of the world is in a shade of grey. But I am no one to judge. I just try to live a peaceful existence.

reply

I don't drink booze or coffee. And I only take medicine when I NEED it so that I won't DIE. Common sense.

Smoking a cigarette does NOTHING for you. Taking a drug to balance out a life threatening disease you have so that you won't DIE is NOT the same in any way shape and form. Hate to break it to you.

I just feel like these junkies get defensive when you try to take their drugs away. They will do anything to keep killing themselves very sad and disturbing. Even worse people defend these idiots. Someone taking life saving meds is NOT the same as someone trying to GET life threatening diseases (lung cancer/heart attack) or just getting high by doing useless drugs.

It's like saying booze and water are both liquids and therefore the same thing. False logic. When the two are not the same at all. We need to drink water, but we don't need to drink booze. Do you understand the difference between NEED and WANT!?

And yeah coffee is ALSO bad, and it stinks like sh!t. And people addicted to pain meds are ALSO bad. For example. You are listing MEDICAL TREATMENTS and comparing them to someone POINTLESSLY harming themselves with UNNECESSARY drugs (cigarettes/weed/crack). Are you serious!? ROTFLMFAO

reply

[deleted]

Ever hear that song "Drug Dealer" by Macklemore? So very sad. And a lot of good people have overcome addiction. You are right, drugs don't make people good or bad. No one sets out to become an addict.

reply

and not every person who does a drug g is a drug addict.
addiction is just a subset of all drug users, which is like 80% of all humans if you are honest about what a 'drug' is.

reply

"And I only take medicine when I NEED it so that I won't DIE."

Really?
Only take drugs in life-threatening situations?
Never taken aspirin or tylenol for a headache?
Never taken cold medicine or antihistamines?
Never had a Novocaine shot when you have a cavity filled?
Because headaches and colds and allergies and pain won't kill you, but they do cause suffering.
You are a very black and white thinker. Everything is either life or death, good or bad with you. Life is full of grey areas.
Compassion= GOOD

Well put.

reply

I'll say this: you chose your name -- TheCritic -- well.

reply

Focusing on the negative.

reply

How about those who always always focus on the positive? Example, If you say, "Wasn't that earthquake horrible? It killed 75 people.", their response will be, "Well, at least it didn't kill 100 people."

reply

I know what you mean... I hate when people say, well you are just lucky such and such didn't happen to you. Its like a negative-positive or something.

reply

TROLLS!
What can I say??? Many of my annoyances have already been listed.
I am fed up with the people who want to fart around on this site, all in the name of making it WONDERFUL!

reply

Lova ya, Margo, and agree, but the question was about the real world, not on line....Anything to add in that arena?

reply

Give me a bit of time to think on it....

reply

I got it! This is something I want to scream about! It's one of those cell phone things.
I am having a face to face conversation with someone. I am in the middle of a sentence when out of NO place, the person I am talking to will suddenly whip out the phone and take a call....
No apology, no explanation that they were expecting the call.... they have to take this.... They do not even make a sign with their finger as if to say, "one moment , please?"
I mean, I may be boring, but if that is the case, why talk to me at all???
Live on your freakin phone!

reply

If they do hold up a finger to make you wait, you could always hold up a finger of your own... ;)

reply

I've done that occasionally when it's been multiple calls

reply

That's one of my pet peeves.

I don't mind if someone's expecting an important call, or if they feel they need to take it because it's work or a kid or a spouse and their call might be important. But then say so before taking it, and say excuse me or similar, and apologize for the interruption when the call's over.

All this should be obvious. It's common courtesy.

reply

"-- People who stop in the middle of a supermarket aisle to check their lists, decide on an item, etc., blocking anyone from passing and oblivious to what they're doing. Ditto people having conversations in the middle of an aisle."

YES!
I will expand this to be anyone who just STOPS right in an aisle, or a busy city sidewalk, or a doorway, or entryway, anyplace where it's obvious that many other people are needing to move through that spot.
Sidewalks and aisles are like roads , but roads for pedestrians, and you would not just stop your car right in the middle of a road. You fucking pull over if you need to stop. Somehow, people do not use the same logic when they are walking. Just pull your ass over to the side and let traffic keep flowing. I go most places on foot, so I know how to walk, but so many people do not know how to walk, apparently.

reply

Yup. Good embellishment

reply

People who use the phrase "quick question." Asshole, you've just added a useless syllable to whatever you want to ask, protracting the interaction and thereby SLOWING IT DOWN!

People who ask me to stop what I'm doing so they can do something "real quick." (A) Rude, stupid people NEVER do anything "real quick." They don't what the fuck "quick" is. (B) When did you become more important than I am?

People who walk up to me at bus stops and ask for what bus I am waiting.

Customers who, when I approach them and ask if they are being helped, reply, "Do you work here?" I want to say, "No, I don't, but you're compellingly magnetic for a 40 year-old with a pot belly, B.O., his fly undone and his finger up his nose."

Assholes who stand in the doorway of a bus or a train even though there's an ample supply of empty seats. Actually, they never really stand. They slouch; you know, that "cool," sullen, snarky fuck-you slouch. And they act like they don't understand what you're trying to do when you attempt to disembark the vehicle through "their" door. One of the most gratifying moments of my life was when I was riding an elevated train and all the car's door suddenly opened while the train was running and the sorry buttplug who was slouching on the doors that had Do Not Lean On Doors fell out the door and to the ground some 30 feet below. And, yes, he did wave his arms around a lot before finally plummeting to his doom, as if he were THIS close to learning how to fly!

People who are always in a hurry simply because somehow the very act of being in a hurry has become perceived to be a virtue, a good thing. Grab one of them and ask why s/he is in a hurry, and the answer will be one of two things: s/he has no idea at all, or s/he was too lazy and/or stupid to plan properly ahead for some event or task and is trying to use haste to compensate for cognitive deficiency.
