ATM: Film Picks

Post you film pick here (as a reply to the OP).

After you post you pick here, open a thread on its specific board, with the marker ATM: Film Name.

Example:

The Shining /30.07.2017/
https://moviechat.org/tt0081505/The-Shining

Example thread title on the board:
ATM: The Shining

The form for the content of the thread is pretty open. If you want, you can add questions or discussion points, but those aren’t a must. A short introduction of the film would work as well. Whatever you feel like :)

Let us know if you have any questions.

reply

HEY! This is great! Thank you.

reply

Hopefully this will work for everybody.

reply

It works for me as well! And actionkamen also found it!

Go team!

reply

Awesome.
Enjoy.
I didn't want to let you down again.

reply

worked for me too :)

Can I suggest something though? Just editing the original post to list the movies that have been watched and what one is on the go? Not to make extra work for you, just might get confusing when this thread is pages and pages long, as I'm sure it will be! :) Thanks for starting this, although I haven't officially joined or joined in yet! Was one of the first thing I looked for actually.

reply

That's an excellent suggestion, Daisy, if Mina doesn't mind. It'd make it easier for new people to join in.

reply

Thanks, and yes it would be nice for more people to join in too. Like I said a group like this was one of the first things I looked for. (I should get posting more than..haha.) Would be a neat thing to do with a TV series too, harder to do for time though and how differently people's TV watching habits are.

Mina, if you don't have the time I could make a new thread listing the movies and links and you could link it. :)
I wish they could sticky this thread too. But that's enough out of me. haha. :)

reply

This is a good suggestion, Daisy! I don't know why I though it'd be more organised. I should know by now that there is no such thing in GD lol.

although I haven't officially joined or joined in yet!

What are you waiting for? :P I'm glad you looked for it!

reply

I know right? i was just typing that as you were typing this! :) Or I was typing this as you were typing that? haha

reply

Jinx again then! lol

I edited the OP BTW. I'll add the links later too :)

reply

Yeah really, lol :)
Impressed you did it that quick. I just can never keep track of time so I don't know what movie your on. haha. Makes it easier for me. Thanks again girl!

reply

Well, since I'm online anyway, I might as well do it now, before I forget lol. And you're very welcome.

For being a self-confessed derailer of threads, I do like things to be organised.

reply

I don't think I've ever been accused of being organized. I wish I was.
And I think I'm derailing your thread now! Stopping now! :)

reply

Wow, you are quick :) Thanks

reply

The fourth kind (2009)

reply

Do you have a link to where we can watch it? Can't find it on YouTube unless you go to pirate sites, and Netflix doesn't have it.

reply

I can't post links,Catbookss...i use a smartphone,so it doesn't work.

reply

Okay, I understand. Can you tell us where to find it so we can watch? I looked for many pages on YouTube, and all of them lead to pirated downloads. I'm not willing to watch anything from a pirate source.

reply

Cat try this one. I know nothing about this site but there are no pop ups.

http://123hulu.com/watch/rQvMywv2-the-fourth-kind.html

reply

Thanks, Dewey. I'd try it if it were Hulu, which I know to be legit, but I have to question it's 123Hulu and don't want to risk viruses or support a pirating site.

reply

I hear ya.
I honestly don't know if it's legit or not.

reply

I doubt if it's legit, but just for argument's sake, those Youtube uploads aren't exactly legit either... Those are considered pirated content.

Unfortunately, sometimes you have to go with the "shady" sites. I couldn't find a legit copy /not even DVD/ of The Changeling here for example.

As for a link to a legit site, it has to be the US members who provide that, since the content of even the ones that do have services here is different in different countries.

reply

True, many of those YouTube uploads aren't legit either. But some are. All I know is those that aren't, beyond any question, go to lengths to make it look like you'll be able to see a film (run time, intro), and then some lame "oops, sorry, copyright infringement, BUT! go to the link below to see it" displays.

I'm surprised none of the links posted of The Changeling worked for you and were legit. I've seen copies of it on YouTube for several years, without any take-downs. I assumed because there weren't any take-downs, and it's not even available on VRC let alone DVD or Bluray, it was considered to be in the public domain and therefore legit.

So what are we supposed to do with ATM when making our choices? I assumed, or read somewhere, or thought I did, the films had to at least be available on YouTube.

reply

I don't know why they'd block it in some places and not other, if copyrights is such an issue. They might be getting ad money from those uploads in the US...

We picked Youtube way way in the beginning, because it's the only site that's going to be easily available to all members most of the time. Hulu, Netflix, Amazon all have different content internationaly, so they aren't a safe bet whatever is picked is going to be available /I don't think Hulu even has a service here/.

It won't always work /that's clear at this point lol/. So sometimes we'd have to look for alternatives, as a group, or individually. I still think it'd be best if we do try to pick something that is on Youtube /I'm going to/, but we can't really force people to do that and it is somewhat limiting to the choices if you really really want to pick something that isn't on Youtube.

I don't think this made things clearer...

reply

I don't use youtube for movies,Catbookss...anyway,i saw that godewey provide a link for you,you can check it.

reply

Unless someone can provide a for-sure legit way to watch it, I'm going to have to pass. I'll wait and see if anyone can find one and verify it's safe.

reply

The club might want to view older public domain movies such as myretroflix.com which is safe and legal. Plenty of good movies there to watch and discuss. I too don't like these pirating sites. Just a suggestion.

reply

Good idea. If there's no way to watch the picks otherwise. The Changeling is available on YouTube, but not for those who are outside of the States.

Netflix is great, but not everyone has it, and even if they do, what's available isn't the same from one country to another.

Myretroflix.com is new to me. Safe and legal is exactly what I want! Thanks very much for bringing the site up. I'm going to go check it out very soon.

reply

I'm at work now,so for now,i can't help you...but i don't think you'll find any...legit site.

reply

Here are my picks, for now:

Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
West Side Story (1961)
Do The Right Thing (1989)
The Warriors (1979)
Fantasia (the original--1940)
Fantasia 2000 (2000)
Jaws - the first one (1975)

reply

Time to clarify :P

We do the picks on a rotational principle in alphabetical order. Each rotation we make one pick when it's our turn. The members with A go first, then those with B, C and so on, one person at a time, one movie at a time. The new pick is announced every two weeks. Then we watch the movie, discuss and all that good stuff /the discussions don't have a time limit/.

Did I make it sound complicated? Feel free to ask if you have any questions /me or another member would be glad to answer them/.

P.S. I'm glad you signed up, those are some excellent movies you've listed!

reply

Okay. Thank you, MinaVladimir. What should I do at this point? Did I omit anything that I should've provided in terms of information? How do I start/enter into the ATM forum? How do the members get A, B or C, etc.? Just curious, because I'm not sure what's taking place next. Thanks again for your time and attention on this matter.

reply

These are the links to both ATM threads that deal with the details:

Read through the OP's again.

The alphabetical order is according to the first letter of the member's User Name. The Roster is your guide for who makes the pick next. Croft_alice has just made his pick, next it's Dazed, and so on. As of now, your turn to announce a pick is after MovieManCin2. You do that by posting a comment here /look at the other comments on this thread to see how the members do that/ and then open a thread on the film you've picked's individual board /with ATM in the title/.

ATM doesn't have a forum. To join any discussion, go the film's individual board and look for the thread with "ATM" in the title.
Links to the last two picks:
https://moviechat.org/tt0080516/The-Changeling
https://moviechat.org/tt1220198/The-Fourth-Kind

There you can share your thoughts on the film, write a review, or discuss in anyway you'd like :).

For now, what's next for you /and all of us whose turn hasn't come yet to make a pick/ is to watch the latest movie if you haven't /or any that interest you/ and join the discussions.

I hope this clears things up /I know I'm not the best explainer in the world lol/. If you have any more questions we'd be happy to answer those as well :)

reply

Does the alphabetical order refer to the first letter of a member's first or last name? Just curious.

reply

Yes, first letter of a member's name.

reply

The first letter of a member's first name or last name. or the member's username?

Also, how do I get into the ATM link?

reply

Many if not most of us here don't have last members name, so again, it's the first letter of our member names.

Not sure what you mean by this: "Also, how do I get into the ATM link?" If you can explain in more detail, someone will be able to answer you :)

reply

Just butting in here. I hope I understand what you meant.
When you have watched the movie that was picked, and you want to review and discuss that movie, Go to that movie's individual board. The person who picked that movie will have their name there in the discussion section and will also have ATM there in that thread too.
I hope that was what you were trying to find out. If not, I guess I have really been no help what so ever.
Carry on.......

reply

what is the current movie ??

reply

It's written in the (updated) OP, which for now is The Fourth Kind (2009).

reply

thank you

reply

Thanks. I'll try that.

reply

Hello fellow At The Movies contributors! Mina let me know that it was my turn to pick the movie. I found something short, less than 30 minutes.
My pick is SIX SHOOTER (2004). It's available on YouTube. It's a live action short from Martin McDonagh. He won an Oscar for it in 2006. I like it very much and I hope you do too! I'm not sure how to create a link for it but if you put the title followed by the year, it will certainly pop up on YouTube.

reply

You've piqued my interest !

reply

Please, come join our discussion!

reply

I think this is the YouTube link...

https://youtu.be/T9w9BJXeL4E

reply

Yup, this is the one I watched (with the 16 subtitles. Idk why that made me laugh :D)

reply

Thank you for doing that. I'm terrible at it. I did try but it was only the YouTube part that got linked.

reply

When does this start, and how do I get on?

reply

You're already on the roster.
Right now we're watching Six Shooter and have already started discussing.
After you watch it go to the movie board and look for the ATM post.
We try to find movies on youtube because this is the most accessible to everyone.

reply

Thanks, godewey.

reply

The new pick is 11:14.
Please check it out. It's a fun fast paced movie that a lot of people aren't familiar with.
I don't think you'll be disappointed.

How do I pick a movie? My choice movie pick is the 1961 film, West Side Story. How do I go about it?

reply

Did you read this thread:

https://moviechat.org/general/General-Discussion/597e25e78d005c00119f15f8/ATM-A-film-discussion-group-Information-Sign-Up-and-Roster

We do the picks in alphabetical order of the members' user name. If you look at the roster in the OP, you'd see that hownos is after godewey. So it was his turn. Next is keybored. After that it's me and so on. You will post your pick here after MovieManCin2. Someone will contact you if you forget. Until then feel free to join in the discussion of The Ox-Bow Incident.

reply

Thanks, MinaVladimir. I'll be on the lookout. All the best.

reply

You're welcome, mplo!
