What Would You Ask A Random Person on the Phone?

I'm curious, and I do different kinds of experiments. A year ago, I'd call random numbers and ask what their favorite movies were. When I wasn't getting responses, I'd change my intro, and say I was a student, and it helped a lot.

I like calling random numbers, pretending I recognize the person, ask how they are... and I'll ask for a name, and it ends, but I've had some funny people laugh with me, after they thought they recognized my voice, etc...

If you had an office with people on the phone, what kinds of questions? Would you try to influence? Retrieve certain information?

reply

Why would you invade the privacy of people's phones when you could easily find people open to discussions online? And if you wanted human contact, why wouldn't you just go to a bar or coffee house? I'm not saying your behavior is particularly bad... but if we all started doing this it would get pretty annoying.

reply

It's not the same thing.

reply

Since when was a bar or coffee house a place to solicit people?

I think people just need to start communicating more; however, because of automation and cell phones, people are becoming more and more introverted. Everywhere except a library, people should be able to socialize. In school classes, people should be encouraged to socialize. Can you believe they kept me "shhh" for 12 straight years? Now when you are in a job, they expect you to ask questions and teamwork. This is an outrage!

reply

It's more appropriate to ask people questions at a hangout dedicated to socializing than calling people randomly on the phone. As I said to him, it's not a terrible thing if one person does it... just like throwing trash out the car window one time wouldn't be the end of the world... but let's say it became a "thing" and people started doing this over and over... it would be very disrupting and keep people from their regular business. In an isolated case, assuming the caller was a nice, interesting, law abiding citizen... it would be a positive to receive a random call from someone like that. But done with any frequency it becomes a different thing. They have phone apps... dating services... clubs and organizations of many kinds to connect people with common interests if you only want to make new friends... if you can't meet people and make connections through these normal channels then you probably are annoying or difficult to deal with.

reply

That sounds like what the killers from Scream did ;)

Can you even do this anymore? When I was a kid we used to prank call people. Now the only people I know of who do this are scam artists.

I wouldn't do it, but if people talk to you and you don't get in trouble...

reply

What a scared society... (Which is one of many points of these experiments)..

You won't do it, but if you want someone baffled for the rest of their lives, call and say "Hi, wanna talk?"

reply

No baffled is when you perfect a chinese accent and insist they ordered from ming's restaurant around the corner.

reply

Sounds like you're old.

reply

If they ordered chinese food lol!

reply

If you called me, which you couldn't because we live in different countries, but if you did, I would unleash a Carlinesque series of expletives, hang up on you and lmao.

reply

But how do you know he lives in a different country? O_o

reply

So you are the person Varadero8 has been having problems with. A month ago he had a thread about someone calling his phone and he was getting tired of it....

Hmm...

It think we have found the culprit.

reply

That's a crappy thing to do! You aren't much different than a telemarketer. You are only a few steps up from a scammer. We use to call you a crank caller.
Stick to talking on Movie Message boards!

If I had an office I would assume that I was employed by someone to do a job. If I had to be on the phone I'd ask questions that related to the job!
Would I try to influence? I suppose I would, if it required sales.
Retrieve certain information? I imagine I'd want to know if they are even interested!

reply

This comes across as creepy and camoed as " experimenting . "

reply

chickenshit

reply

LOL, oh this is rich ! I'm a " chickenshit " and society in general is " scared " but you're the normal one, a man in his physical prime who prefers to stay secluded in his home 24/7 as much as possible and live inside his " imagination " because he can't cope with the outside world.

reply

I've spent 25% of my life overseas in some continent... I guess you assume others don't do anything after looking at your lack of achievements. Idiot.

reply

Hah! I saw through your facade from the very beginning , weirdo !

reply

Sorry, that's just strange.

reply

you're probably a very boring person.

reply

Not at all. But you're likely a very weird person, and not in any good way

reply

I'm sure you are... You lack creativity and imagination for one. I don't even wanna know the rest.....

reply

That's the best you can come up with? You're obviously a mental child in addition to being strange. If you consider calling random strangers up to ask them questions enjoyment, your life is obviously pathetically lonely. The fact you feel it necessary to be so hostile to those who don't agree with you underscores the fact you're a vapid asshead.
